What do you guys think of the WorkSharp vs. a HF 1x30? I'm going to pick up one this month and I'm trying to figure out if the WorkSharp would be worth about double the price of the HF.

Cool pictures Huy! Awesome.

do you mean this worksharp one?

if so, i'd say HF 1x30 since you should have more options for belts and it'll handle larger blades.

Yeah, that's the one. You can remove the guides, so I think you can handle larger blades too, and you can buy more belts for it apparently (they have an expanded selection beyond their lowest, 220, and 6000). The only advantage I can see is having the guides there to give you an idea of angles (for those who've never power sharpened before). But I don't know if the motor is better or build quality is better or something. I'm thinking I"m going with the HF anyway because it's less costly and I've got a 20% coupon for HF :) I'll have to bring it over to one of the meetups so one of you guys can show me how to use it properly.

My mechanic neighbor at the shop just bought one of those and it appears to be well made. The belts are tiny and I would imagine heavy profiling of larger knives on it would get old pretty darn quick. I personally would prefer a 1X30 or 1X42 for more capacity and versatility.

I'll do the HF 1x30, stick to what I know has worked for quite a few already. Price is more palatable anyway

good choice, you'll burn through belts quickly with the worksharptools one, and if you ever plan to move up to a bigger grinder, you'll be familiar with the platform.
