December Buck of the Month - My Guess ** UPDATE: Released **

I got mine in today. I really like the coloring in the wood and how the pins extrude past the scales. It's nice to see scales that are not so uniform in shape, size, & evenness. I feel like I have something real in my hands. :)

NICE!!

Well I don't mind saying, then, I would like to see an evolutionary step for the 112 which would be no less heavy duty and have no pins but have the screwed together construction as found on some of their other knives. Not an aluminum frame. Then a 110 of the same construction. The Buck of the month program would be nice to try that out. Strong brass, nickel silver, or 420HC steel frame. The 420HC steel frame would be nice as strength could be maintained with a reduction in thickness to accomodate the new design.

The first release can have distinctive ebony handles.

This could, in my mind, make a new heavy duty hunting (clip point) and work/trades (drop point) knife with no equal in a USA heavy duty knife.

Is it just me or do the pins look slightly bigger?
Now that you say it.... they do look bigger, but I looked at some of my others and I think they are the same. These do appear brighter than brass though, maybe that's it.

I'm really digging the comments about the natural state of this wood and the brightness of the pins. I feel something special about this knife, something very Holiday-ish. O Little Star of Bethlehem...

I'm not worried a bit now about getting one..
Only 20 something left!!! Has Buck ever made a 110 or any folder with a nickel silver frame and solid wood Ebony? When this BOTM was announced I could not find any reference to any folder made with it..

those are all good looking knives.

The pins are nickel silver and the ebony is certainly distinctive and fitted very nicely to the nickel silver bolsters. Very nice craftsmanship throughout. If it wasn't I wouldn't say it. There should be no argument there.

The ebony is a very dark brown like dark chocolate and also black. It's actually very exciting.

Most of all I am proud to own such a very nice work of craftsmanship from an American manufacturer.

Mine arrived this afternoon. I am very happy with her. I don’t think I could find anything to nit pick about her even if I wanted to. She is perfect. Sharp as a whip too. Here she is side by side with my only other natural wood handled Buck. My father’s 110 that was given to me many years ago.

This showed up in my mailbox today. I ordered it late last Wednesday, but had received no order confirmation email, or any tracking information.

Here it is between my old two dot 110 and old first generation 112.

I'm not liking the feel of the distressed leather sheath. It feels like it might be made from something less than full grain leather, top grain leather maybe, or even a split. It doesn't matter though, because the sheath will get put away with the box. When I want to carry this knife, I'll use this sheath, that I made for my other 112s.

O.B.

Yes USPS. Mine also arrived yesterday...photos to follow when I get a chance. Everything about mine perfect including centering.
Thanks! I ordered one but I haven't received a shipping notice yet. Good to know that they are shipping USPS. I'll get a notice from them whether Buck notifies me or not.

Looking forward to your photos.

I never got any notice, order confirmation, or shipping. Just a Box waiting for me at the post office, when I picked up my mail, last night.

Mine came in on Monday. :D

I was definitely right in thinking that I would have regretted not picking this up while I had the chance. It's gorgeous! The fit and finish is fantastic. The scales are very beautifully done. I'm so glad Buck went with solid ebony over a laminate. I hope to see solid wood scales on more of their offerings in the future. The grind is great, the centering is perfect... The KNIFE is perfect. I honestly can't find a single flaw in the knife (and that is beyond rare). The action is a little gritty like most 110s? I guess there's that. Nothing a quick flush won't fix though.

Buck 110 in oak and 5160 up top, BotM center, and Buck 505 Knight on the bottom.

As far as the the quality of the sheath goes... I find it to be of the same quality as Buck's other leather sheaths for the 110/112. The leather is a bit more flexible (because of the "distressed" finish I imagine), but it looks to be of similar quality. Mexico has a long history of making high quality leather products, so I wasn't expecting the sheath that comes with this to be any higher quality just because it's made in the US.

"Made in Mexico" Buck 110 leather sheath on the left and "Made in the USA" Buck 112 distressed leather sheath on the right.

Stitching and leather quality seem similar all around, but I do prefer the belt loop style on the "Made in USA" sheath much more.

"Made in USA" 112 sheath up top, and "Made in Mexico" 110 sheath on the bottom. Thickness looks to be the same, maybe a little thicker on the "Made in USA" sheath. Honestly, I'm not sure why they are any complaints about the sheath this comes with.
