Dedicated chopper knife for $100 or less... Sugestions?

Don't overlook the Ontario 12 incher. I've got some of the choppers mentioned above, like the Boomslang, love the BK 9, the bolo is good too. But if I have to carry it very far, I seem to gravitate to the Ontario. 1095 and made in the USA, good knife.

I'm shooting for something between 9 and 11 inches. I have a Condor Golok, HI Foxy Folly, Becker Kukri Machete, and Cold Steel Kukri Machete as choppers and I'm looking for something slightly smaller, easier to carry inside my pack if I want to. Bryan's 10" chopper fits the bill, and its a custom to boot. I may consider other options for a future buy, so any other suggestions are appreciated, but for this Christmas I'm getting a Bryan Breeden original. :D

BTW, Bryan, I'm glad you like the patches. Just showing my appreciation for your generous offer and taking the time to make my knife before Christmas.

Scrapyard has recently put their 711 up for sale-- 7 3/8" of SR-101 for $119+$14.95 shipping. I know it's more than you wanted to spend, but looks like a nice knife. Very similar specs to a SOD and Swamp Works Camp Tramp. The way they build them, it ought to last you a good while as a dedicated chopper.

Thank you TXscout. Good to know there is something new out in SR-101. I did not know about the 711, that is something I would be definitely interested for a future buy.

How about an American made 12" machete. The Ontario is the way to go! I like the slightly lighter "economy" model.

Well, Bryan started on my chopper. Right now is just shaped and drilled. Maybe is just me, but it's beginning to look good.

I always like to see what Bryan is doing. Good looking knives and a great guy to boot.

You can say that again. He really is a great guy and an excellent bladesmith. He listens to your ideas and offers well thought alternatives and no-nonsense advice. The truth is that I was not aware of his work until this thread. To be honest I was surprised by his offer, which was much more than I could hope for. I googled him and realized just how good his work is, which makes the knife he is making for me much more of a blessing.

Hi all,

Preacher Man, thanks for the kind words. The Good Lord had plans for both of us and that lead us to meet this way.
Speaking of blessings, I had a good day in the shop today and I sent you some more info on what I have done with your knife today and another pic.

Chat with you later,

Bryan

Here's the latest picture from Bryan. The handle is drilled for balance and the grind is ground.

He also did the heat treatment, tempering, clean up, and put the handle, but don't have pictures of that yet. Will get some tomorrow after the glue sets.

I can't thank you enough for your offer and making this knife for me. God is definitely blessing me with this, and I hope you are blessed too in some way.

I'm really glad for you that Bryan can accommodate you. You'll be really happy with how he works, and from the photos, with the finished work too.

Hi all,

Loose arrow, thanks for the kind words. I sure hope you get a chance to come up to make a knife at the shop. I try to leave enough room between knife orders to try and work around there time frame, so that if someone/ you is able to come to my shop and work on there knife in person that it does not con flick to much with the knife order schedule.
I have been working my full time job and then a part time job doing the same as my full time and then making knives part time.

I quite working the part time job, since I got my KMG grinder and want to focus more on the part time knife making now, also in the morning I will be ordering my new paragon heat treat oven and hopefully they do not have to build it and can just send it out lol. will see. Anyways Stainless steel will be something to think about if you want also.
either way when you can come up.

Spider991, it was great to chat with you on the phone today. Just e-mail me and we will go from there.

Preacher man I sent you another pic in a e-mail.
Also yes the Good Lord has blessed me and it had been fun to work with you on this project. Great to chat with you on the phone to.

Here is the latest picture Bryan sent me; the knife with the handle material clamped while the glue sets. The material you see on the background is the tan kydex for my sheath.
