Dedicated chopper

I've had a MOAB, original thickness, NMFBMLE, and they were great choppers. But pricey. I have been using the 1311, but I recently picked up a BB13 battle grade. It definitely out chops the 1311, and rivals the NMFBM, imo.

If I had to carry one all day, it would likely be the 1311.

For me, in order, it's: BB13CG, NMFBM fatty (these two are about equal), B11, CGFBM, Bushwacker Mistress (these last three are about equal), Rodent9. (This is out of the ones that I own).

As soon as I go hiking, it's the B11. In the car or around the house, BB13. For pure joy and satisfaction, NMFBM.

...I bet the BME2 is probably as good as the 1111 but I’ve never used one.

They're pretty close in terms of overall length and weight, but feel like much different blades in hand. The 1111 has a longer blade and thicker stock, (.25" vs. ~.235",) but the BME2 is around an ounce and a half heavier due to all of the weight in the full tang handle. The 1111 has a lot more "oomph" in chopping with the forward mass, while the BME2 gives some of that up but is a more balanced blade for other tasks. That Ergo2 handle is a thing of beauty imo.

That’s good to know. Sounds like the BME2 is a good knife for more uses than just chopping.

Yup, it and the SHe2 are both very underrated. Great balance, great handle and not too heavy, plus the ability to choke back on the handle for a longer effective chopping length. That's good though since sleeper INFI is cheaper to pick up on the X down the road. ;)

Gratuitous pic...

I wonder how the AK 47 would compare with the 1311 or the BB13 for that matter...and ideas?

The consensus seems to be that the 1311 would be best choice if you are going to pack for the trail. Again, I like the Basic 9 in this regard but favor the machete attributes of the 1311.

there are others that need testing but theses two are at the head of my pack.

AK47 is an okay chopper, but nowhere near great. My FBMLE is much more effective at that task. I'm pretty sure a BB13 or 131 would be too.

Or maybe my ninja technique is just bad.

BB13 and 1311 and great choppers, BB13 has a little more heft while the 1311 is faster.

I was really surprised by the Hognose War Sword, A big lazy swing carries a surprising amount of energy, like a heavyweight boxer’s punch... it’s not the most practical tool.. but possibly the most fun to use

The AK47 swings pretty fast but it’s thin stock and transmits a lot of vibration. It will clean up a fallen limb but would not be my first choice

True, All of the katana/wakisashi blades transmit vibration on hard woods. Can be painful on bare hands.

The AK is a nice bush/brush whacker, but it ain't that efficient on large limbs or trees.

I'm down to my one dedicated chopper....KZII (I've thinned and convexed the edge, hand shaped the handle and stripped it). I have not used the WTF yet. K

If I had to pick one, it would be the BB13. I just picked up a Battlesaw and I’m looking forward to breaking it in once the weather clears :D

I did only test the CGFBM and the BWM CF yet. They are not on par for me, not at all. The BWM CF is really lively and could also be used as a big knife or machete while the CGFBM is much heavier and definitely a dedicated chopper.
