Deep carry clips? Why?

I've noticed that deep carry pocket clips are all the rage now and I'm curious what people's desire for them is fueled by? Is it simply to get greater concealment to carry in places you aren't supposed to have a knife? I've never seem people get scared/nervous seeing a bit of a pocket knife sticking out of someone's pocket. While I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble for it, it seems like a deep carry clip is pushing you more toward having to defend a concealed weapon than having some of the knife visible out of your pocket.

They don't discourage me from a particular knife but to me they have two major downsides. My first and biggest annoyance with them is they make it that much harder to get the knife out of your pocket, and in some designs require an extra hand position change to get to the opening mechanism. The second downside I notice is having the thick loop of the clip that far toward the tail of the knife creates an uncomfortable "lump" in the hand. Similar to why I don't like clips on the tip down carry position. Where if it's places a bit further down the handle I don't really notice the clip, but on every deep carry clip I have I noticed it right away as annoying in extended use.

I personally don't want any extra attention towards my knife. If you are a knife nut then you know what kind of knife I'm carrying.
As for deep clip or standard I've never noticed a difference in handling or comfort.

Same, I don't want to draw attention to my knives. Also for the smaller knives it prevents them from falling out of the pocket

I don't understand them either??

I like having part of the knife up out of my pocket. It makes it much easier to pull the knife out, especially while wearing gloves. Which I wear at work year round.

I personally worry less about losing my $100 plus knife with it that deep in my pocket, that is the only reason I prefer them.

For me-

Less attention
Better Protection (the less knife that is visible, the less there is to get beaten up in daily use)
More Comfortable (deeper in my pocket means less jabbing in my side if i move around alot... yes, i am a big guy....)

I dont always go out of my way for deep carry, but i enjoy it on some knives like my Blur and Contego...

I work in a cold climate and wear gloves also. I added a short lanyard and tuck it in the pocket. Pulls out a little easier.

When I do carry clipped, which is rare, I want the knife as deep in my pocket as it can be and I don't want any of it exposed. Never causes a problem, in fact I never think about it.

Ill take a stab..

Discretion. Not to avoid notice of a illegal item as much as just discretion for directions sake. ..The better part of valor...as they say.

Secure. Puts the weight further down in pocket, as to lesson chance of dislodging/catching..Active/Physical occupation/hobby.

As far as how comfortable they are..or are not..They are there/designed for carry first...comfort/convenience second.....trade offs. Folding pocket knives are, by definition are a trade for convenience. Luckily, most clips are removable and or easily replaced w/ a different type as to better suite the particular want/need.

Disregarding personal style and taste and the marketing strategy of giving consumers options ...

It is known that some manufacturers use the same clip design regardless of the handle design leaving more knife exposed and more prone to loss.

Exactly how I feel. I would rather carry something as discrete as I can without drawing any attention. Not that its illegal, I just prefer people now to know. I have my CCW and I always conceal in such a way that I do not "Print" in my shirt, jacket, etc...

I personally like the deep carry clip. One of my favorite deep carry pocket clips is the one that comes stock on the DPX Hest/F. It carries extremely well and does not hurt the hand while using the blade.

I don't like the look of the knife sticking up above your pocket.

I work in an office environment, and it looks funny to me to have a knife sticking up above my slacks.

Otherwise it is not a deal breaker, the Emersons are made to stick out of the pocket I assume to facilitate the wave opening feature more effectively.

I prefer deep carry, but it is not a big deal either way.

I find it more comfortable and less noticeable. I live in a warmer climate so gloves are never a problem. More people notice our knives than we realize, and in my opinion the less noticeable the better. And for some reason having a big chunk of the knife sticking out above my pocket just gets on my nerves, so I put deep carry clips only on the ones I feel stick out too far.

I personally use deep carry clips on my mini grip for two reasons. The first of which is that some of the people I am around don't really care for the fact that I carry a knife. Stereotypical urban sheeple environment, enough said. The second reason being that I find the deep clip to much more comfortable than the regular clip. And in terms of being able to get the knife out of your pocket, I haven't noticed any major problems... One way isn't any harder or easier than the other.

Fad, or complete marketing gimmick? I think not. While there are many of these things in the knife world, I think there is a practical application in circumstance.

Then deep carry clips aren't for you. But for those who DO understand, they are great. Pretty simple.

I could see the comfort thing, depending on where your waist/pocket end up, and the protection of the knife, or fashion if in a dressy environment. Loss seems like a non-factor, I'd think if it comes out enough to fully unclip that little bit extra of handle left in your pocket is probably not going to save it.

I still don't get the sheeple thing, even if you can't see the knife handle, I can't think of any other common pocket items with clips that look like knife clips, so to anyone that's paying attention it's still very obvious that I have a knife clipped in my pocket, deep carry clip or not. In fact I've had more people ask me what that "mystery" clip is on my pocket on deep carry knives out of curiosity, than I have ever had anyone express verbal or visible concern that I have 1/2" of knife handle sticking out of my pocket, but I also don't carry a knife where I'm not supposed to, and I live in a state that's pretty easy going about such things.

Options are great though, and if it makes you feel more at ease it's a good option to have.

I also don't understand it. I'm just not into hiding my knife that I can legally carry while making it more difficult to retrieve from my pocket.

If you work an office job, or a job where you deal with clients on a professional level, then discreet carry is a benefit. Not everyone likes to advertise that they're carrying a knife.
