Hope this isn't too picture heavy for you guys. I got a new Kephart from John (Stomper) and decided to take it to the cornfields with me deer hunting. This year our area was given a bonus tag for an anterless deer, along with a regular permit. So between my wife, daughter and I, we were able to harvest 6 deer.
We took three mature deer. My wife shot a one antlered buck that we decided to cull from the gene pool. She uses a Mdl 70 Winchester in 7x57 Mauser. She also took a yearling fawn.
My daughter shot two yearling fawns with her Mdl 70 Winchester in .243 in. And I harvested two mature does with a Belgium Browning Safari Grade .300 Win Mag.
The 10 point buck was taken by my dad who is 81 years old. He was shooting an old Harrington and Richardson rifle in .270 Win and he also has a beautiful old stag handled Case trailing point, but I didn't get a photo of his knife. He was little upset because he laid the sheath on the hood of his pickup to field dress the deer and somewhere along the line, it's lost. Will have to try to find him another.
John's Kephart worked really well for field dressing the deer for a rather large knife. His O-1 steel held a very good edge and I was pleased how it handled in my hand. I've also included other pictures of some knives. The stacked leather handled Bark River is a Lil Boone that my daughter confiscated from me.
We took the three mature deer to a local butcher shop who makes great sausage and deer sticks and jerky. The three yearlings we processed ourselves. The knives in that photo are a Bark River Utility which my wife really likes in the kitchen along with a Bark River Highland in tigerstriped G-10, which she confiscated from me also. The other is an old SS Helle that I've had for longer than I can remember and is really quite a slicer. The bottom one is a Schrade Mdl 1560T which I really like for skinning.
Hope everyone enjoys the knife pictures. My freezer is full and I thank God for a safe and successful hunt.
Mike
