Deer and Knife Pictures (caution: dead animal content)

Deer hunting around these parts is quite a family tradition. Everyone enjoys the venison on the table and its a change from beef and pork, etc. Matter of fact, I had a chicken tonight and I did give thanks to the Lord for blessing us with a nice meal, a wonderful wife and family to share it with. Just the way it is in these parts. I know it is kind of hard to understand.

I think we need to manage our deer herds properly. We were getting to the point in our area where a lot of car accidents were happening, and a lot of crop damage. That is why the extra permits for the anterless only deer. If we didn't control our deer herds in this manner, it wouldn't be long before disease took its toll.

Spyken, if you weren't so darn far away, I could maybe drag you along hunting sometime.

To remove the backstraps a thin blade works best for me, one with a little flex.

Congrats on the succesful hunt. What is the oval bar with the lanyard on it?

I guess the good lord didn't take care of those deer very well. Funny how one sided the "good lord" seems to be...

Warning issued for trolling. If you'd like to contribute actual content here you are welcome. But, this post does nothing but try to stir up trouble.

The oval bar is a ceramic sharpener I've had forever. It works well. I also have a JRE strop.

Good Show Brian, good to see you back around stranger! :D
Wackafew...I am happy for you and yours..a family that hunts together, stays together! Looks like a good harvest. Corn fields are cheating by the way!! LOL:eek:

Hey..we are bean town..not bean field! I am just kidding about the corn fields..I wish I had one to hunt on!!!! Gene

Congrats on the successful hunt. Thatnks for sharing the great pics!

Now I am hungry.

Looks like you and your family had a great hunt! I can remember my first deer hunt, about 36 years ago. Illinois was shotgun only, and this was before the days of rifled slug barrels. You just took out your Ithaca 37 or Winchester Model 12 (or 97 in my buddy`s case, talk about hammer bite, when you pumped that, it was almost guaranteed you would draw blood!) When you shot, you just crossed your fingers that it was good. My buddy and I both shot at the same deer, we still argue to this day, who`s shot brought it down. Back on topic, it`s great seeing my knives used like this. Thanks, wackafew, for bringing me out of my "funk."

Hey TF, maybe he's not an anti hunter. I just thought it was a funny comment. :D

I may have misinterpreted, but somebody with so few posts and so quickly getting controversial leads me to believe otherwise.

Either way, this thread was about wackafew's successful and safe hunt and to show some of the steel he used to process them. Good job!!

And Stomper, not that I'm one to say I told you so................... :D.

Hope your feeling better John. I was really impressed with how your Kephart handled field dressing those deer. A great general purpose knife.

The mod 12 Winchester brings back a lot of memories. When I was younger I did alot of pheasant hunting with a Mod 12 Winchester sheet.

There's nothing quite as satisfying as coming into the winter with a freezer full of venison and a full wood pile. (I still need more wood) Great job.

Hunting is wrong guys, much better to eat meat from the grocery store, those animals
die in their sleep while Barry Manilow music plays, after a long full life in a big open field.
