Deer Season Update.....Elmax Steak Knife Review

Deer camp was awesome. That Elmax was awesome. I have processed a lot of deer over the years ( has to be close to 300 - 350) and this knife blew me away. I have a feeling it could go for 20 or more deer before touch up.

I have tried every method for hanging deer and skinning them. This is the easiest for me.

Looks like a great hunt! Thanks for the pics. Now when can I get one of them little "steak knives"?

The Elmax is definitely a slicer! It sounds like you guys had a great time  I always love hunting season and not because I hunt, but because the boys bring in venison :D

Very cool, Garth! Congrats on a successful hunt and enjoying some time with good friends (and Beef).

Seems like my travel agent really dropped the ball, I've gotten no hunting in this year. Bummer. Hopefully I can break away in a couple of weeks and get some deer hunting in while I'm on a work trip. I'll take some Elmax goodness with me, just in case ;)

Trevor, if you come to VA and hunt without coordinating with me first... we are going to have some problems!

Good luck to everyone for the rest of the season and Beef, I'm glad you were able to connect on a non-zombie deer...

I might have to get an Elmax strictly for hunting! I was wondering how it would hold up and it has certainly shocked me. Great pictures, Garth! Now, onto more important matters...can we fire up the grill and eat some of that tasty Bambi yet?

Do the ScrapMax blades have the same heat treat as these Elmax steak knives and is the edge geometry similar enough to make them equally good field knives?

I am really loving the ELMAX! It works great for everything I have used it on, it is my "do it all" kitchen knife. I actually smile while chopping onions.

I don't think I will be using mine the way you use yours, Garth. :)

Nice Buck Garth & great field report on the Elmax knife--Hell, now I need one!

The edge geometry on the scrap maxes is a bit thinner. The ffg also lends itself a bit better for doing very fine slicing tasks like peeling potatoes. Cant really comment on the HT...

According to Beef the knife handled deer 10, 11, and 12 just fine. 12 deer and still going strong. Thats impressive to say the least. Beef is supposed to he sending me more pics so I will post them once they arrive.

Yea thats impressive, most people are happy getting through 3 dear with one knife. There has been a lot of talk on the elmax coming from other makers being ”substandard”. Clearly its either a heat treat issue or an issue with the grinding/sharpening post HT.

I can say pretty much without a doubt that the Elmax coming out of Wauseon is the best stainless I have owned to date.
