Deja Vu all over Again!!

Another ancient antique, brought back to life!!
Rhidian made this knife for me for my Birthday!! I couldn't wait to compare it to the old "Oates" Barlow, which BTW was the main inspiration for my first SFO run of Ancient Barlows!! The Oates has integral bolsters - otherwise the resemblance is striking!! Nice job, Rhidian!! You have an amazing memory for details!!Oates 1.jpgOates 2.jpgOates 3.jpgOates 4.jpg
The Oates still has very good function - walks and talks like a champ!!
The Rhidian is a first class knife!! Nice detailing!!Beak 3.jpg

Both are exceptional, all the way down to the hammered pins. Scratting looks great and the "Oates" is in amazing shape considering. What a great birthday gift to a deserving person!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Thanks for sharing these:D

Really great to see that Oates recreation, what a fantastic birthday gift Charlie :) Well done Rhidian Rhidian
Awesome! This would be the perfect Birthday gift! (Aint it?) 😄😄😄
Amazing knife Charlie, I especially like the scratted bone over the sawcut . . . very Barlow-ish.
Thanks for the enthusiasm, everyone!!! It's an amazing present!!
I am so fond of re-created antiques!! Remember these??Sfilato Comp 1.jpgDippety 2.jpg

This one has an interesting story!! Top knife, custom made for me by Roberto De Marinis, Frosolone, through "Fausto", I think (CRS kicks in!!)
The maker forgot the swedge!!😲 Rather than send it back to Italy, I asked Tony Bose if he'd do a 1/2 length cut swedge on it for me!! He instead did a full length swedge, then didn't charge me!! Nice Italian knife anyway!!!Sfilato trio 1.jpg

I suspect the Oates was Luke Oates, 1800-1850. Ref. Goins' Encyclopedia. "Oates" stamped on the blade!

Thanks Charlie! Nice to see them side by side. Looks like I got the size a bit wrong. I was working from one of your scans... oh well
The integral bolsters are really neat on the Oates, they must be drop forged or maybe cast to shape

Charlie, I was looking for some older images earlier, and came across a pic of your Oates Barlow that you sent me when you were thinking of doing your first Ancient :)

They are pretty darn close in size, Rhid!! 👍
And I suspect the bolsters are drop forged on the Oates!!
This knife hasn't left my pocket since it arrived!!
