Deja Vu all over Again!!

That was the planning stage! Judging from GEC's date of 2015 on the first Ancients, it must be between 7 and 8 years ago, by the time they went into production!!

wish i grabbed them back then, 2015 was prime time for me back then. theyre ridiculously difficult to obtain now sadly. each one is more difficult than the previous.

I took some new scans of this knife, mostly to see the bone jigging up close; but it was quite nostalgic for me!! I thought the lines of the knife to be superb, and told Duncan so!! And a few years ago (2 - 3???), He sent it to me with his blessing!!
Thanks, Campbellclanman Campbellclanman !!!
Rhidian did an excellent reprise, shown elsewhere, and I found another antique, in Stag, but this one started the whole story!!!Dip Orig 1.jpgDip Orig 2.jpgDip Orig 3.jpg
The original intention of the knife was as a sheep castrator, but that aside, I just love the lines! With a slight belly in the blade, it is quite functional!! GEC could make a nice one, I'll bet!!

Charlie, you are most welcome, i think any of us struggle to think how we can repay you on the many things you have done and do. 😍

Like you say, when you revisit that Knife- that Jigging is something else isn't it, and quite unique to Sheffield too! I am glad you got Rhidian to fix the Pin, and after a long time the knife became whole again! What an amazing journey Charlie, from you seeing a Knife, that spark goes, and soon Rhidian has the order to bring to life that pattern. It would be so good to listen to the discussion of you and Rhidian having to get this underway!

Rhidian liked that old pattern as much as I did, Duncan!!😁

I wish!! 😲 I sent pics to GEC, but it's a special day when Bill takes on a new pattern!!
Would it suffice to reverse a 93 frame and use this blade shape? Or, if you were to try to achieve a production run based off this pattern, would you push for a new, slimmer frame? HYPOTHETICALLY of course 😂.

This makes me ponder 🤔
How do you handle a design conversation when talking through dimensional details? Would you rather walk away from a project if Bill simply can’t make your design criteria happen? Or do you flow with him, making concessions based on what can be produced? Do you have a threshold that states, “if I can’t get _____% close to the inspiration knife, I’ll just wait”?

I’ve read many of your posts, so I know your regard of Bill. I love how you let the community know his value to the trade. But every designer has a line they want to hold - that’s what I’m inquiring about.

There is no mystery in engaging with a custom maker. They have the ability to make a faithful reproduction. But your ability to align with a production maker is no doubt so much more complex and always something that is fun to hear about.

There are complex details to your questions, Jon, but the simple answer is, that pattern needs to be as it appears/specs in the old "Lockwood Brothers" example! Otherwise, it's a different knife!! The subtle sway, the taper and slim length of the curve, both blade and handle, make that knife so exquisite, IMO!!!
Nothing else will do!! 😲 😁Dippety 2.jpg
Rhidian did a great job!!

Charlie Rhidian did an Excellent Job, It's really neat hearing of your relationship with him, and for how young he is in his chosen field, his skill set that he possesses is exciting, I am glad that the passion that you both share in this game has aligned into a great friendship, this whole thing has so much added in, something special.
