Delica 5?

While I love choils, I think adding one to the Delica line, in addition to making G-10 standard, would make the knife too similar to other models. While it's fun to discuss possible tweaks to the Delica4, I can't think of any that would actually be worth the retooling expenses that would need to be passed on to buyers (i.e. me).

I love my Delica and already use the kick area of the blade as a finger choil, if you don't want to add a choil to the blade then please change the scales to accommodate the finger a little better by adding a slight choil to them similar to the wood handles Gorsnak attached to his Delica.

Don't ever get rid of the FFG blades, I love them!

I would like to see navy blue, florescent green, and burnt orange as scale colors.

A really crazy idea would be to have scale options in the same material that they make mood rings out of.

I adore Spyderco's sabre grind, so I'd say at the very least leave that in the mix for a good long while. And about the only thing I'd like to see bumped up is the handle material. I'm a total freak for G10, and I like it over FRN/Zytel/Grivory/whatever, Ti, aluminum, SS, micarta, and several others. My one wish would be to see both the Delica (and especially the Endura!!) with G10 and either nested steel liners, or no liners at all; keep the exact thinness, which is for me, one of their biggest selling points since they just sort of disappear in your pocket until you need them.

Only one thing I would change with the Delica, and that would be to add a choil like on the Byrd meadowlark2. Same could be said about the Cara Cara2 and Endura. I bought another five Delica 4ffg's for Christmas for my kid's and their spouses. Great knives and great metal, wouldnt change anything else. The different colours are great for edc'ing in areas where people are not knife friendly.

Hi Abolt2,

As you can see from previous posts, not everyone likes finger choils. I think that if we were to go the finger choild route on a Spyderco FRN, we'd more than likely make an FRN version of the Caly series with nested skeletonized steel liners.

Does that mean a revamped lightweight Caly is in the works, Sal? :D

I've got to be honest - I'd much rather see one of the value line (not the Byrds, but the Tenacious-family) get a finger-choil before the Delica. I'd absolutely love a Persistence/Tenacious with a finger-choil - I think I'd probably buy about a dozen of them next year for Christmas gifts for pretty much everyone I know.

That sounds like a good idea. I think the Delica/Endura lines should stay without a choil.

Would it be possible for an optional hourglass/wire clip? I've seen the way that the wire clip is implemented in the Meerkat. What if screw holes were positioned so that either an hourglass clip or a wire clip could be used? I'm not a fan of the wire clip; I'm just saying it would be cool if we had the option.

The biggest improvement that can be made on the Delica and Endura models is getting rid of the finger hump in the middle of the handle. It adds no grip, it's not positioned correctly to accommodate anyone's hands that I know of, and it makes the knives very uncomfortable to hold. I've ground off the humps on all of my Enduras and Delicas, and they are now much more comfortable than they were before. And you can't really tell the difference unless you look for it.

Thanks for answering Sal. I was really blown away by the fit and finish of the Delica 4ffg's I purchased for my family. I think they are pretty much a home run the way they are. I'm just one of the rare choil lovers.:) And thanks for taking the time to actually listen to and answer your customers questions, pretty rare nowaday's.

As Sal said, Delica + deep carry + choil + G10/CF =~ Caly. I consider the Caly the upgrade to the Delica because for me I prefer the deep carry, choil, and handle material on the Caly.

Thank's, Pretty new to Spyderco. I'll take a look at the Caly.

I think the Delica is perfect as-is, for its niche. It is a good value, entry level EDC knife that many people love. I don't think a choil should be added, and I think the steel should stay the same. When I think VG-10, they first knife that comes to mind is the Delica. If you changed anything, I'm relatively sure there would be an uproar. It's Spyderco's flagship model and has a huge following.

I like the idea of a wire clip delica 4, but if there was a way to mount the wires in the back spacer then that would be really cool. Sort of like how the SOG flash clip is done how the clip comes straight out of the butt end of the handle and curves around to the side. Maybe if there was a way to do a wire clip bent around sort of like the pocket clip on the Benchmade 470 Emmisary.
