Delica...usable knife or paper weight

My desk faces 15' of dual-slide corner windows, and IIRC both my Gen 1 and 2 Delica have failed as paperweights. Wait, maybe I need the steel clips? :D

I see no reason to look down one's nose at "flickers"...but it's certainly not the be all and end all of the perfect knife either.

You're right, bro, but it is a great knife. There is no perfect knife. Flick all you want, but just please not in front of non knife people. It freaks them out. We don't need any more freaking out over knives, if possible. That's all I'm saying. I even use two hands in front of strangers, except at work. I just git 'er done with the opening hole.

FWIW, i think you have a perfectly valid point about the pr effect of flicking in front of non knife people.

That's my only problem with flicking. People who have to show off and make us look bad. I've flicked knives when alone. No big deal. Actually, people flicking in vids annoy me too. My neighbor saw my knives and asked, "is that one of them "flick knives"?". So annoying. It was designed to open easily with one hand, not to flick open so I could cut people quicker. Sorry, I'm not ranting or trying to annoy you, bro. I just want to be able to carry knives my whole life. I have since I was 9. :)

The delica is my favorite knife. It was my first good pocket knife I got 6/7 years ago. Since then I've bought a ton more blades but still always go back to the delica, actually just got a endura too.

If you're carrying a knife for actual cutting and not to play with, its a great knife.

If you don't like the Delica you are doing something wrong.

Some people will not share either your preferences or your loyalties. If you believe otherwise you are thinking something wrong.

And he said it will not open with one hand. Not an issue for me as I seldom even try for one-hand opening, but could be for someone who bought a one-hand-opening knife.

Believe it or not, this is my first post here.....even though I have been reading for a long while....

I've been using Spyderco's on and off since '94.... thanks to the old factory store that was across from Manni & Bo's in Golden...

Currently, I am using a Persistence as my EDC... but my wife always carries a Dragonfly (in her purse) and a Delica 4 in her pocket.

For Christmas, Santa delivered the plastic Delica 4 to my five year old daughter. This is fantastic as I can continue teaching her knife safety and knife skills so she can get a real knife on her next birthday (if and only if, she shows the necessary responsibility...). We put it together and had a great time talking about how to use it, how it could be safely used as a tool, and what to avoid doing with it or any other knife. She even stressed the lock enough to fold on her hand doing something I told her not to do (again, with the plastic version; I've not seen a real one fail yet), and she learned a valuable lesson about safety.

The Delica is a great knife, it is on my short list of next purchases, and I hope Sal and company will continue the tradition of great, usable knives for the money.

Merry Christmas

I have several lock-back knives and none are show piece "flippers." I don't have a Delica, but do have a Native 5 lock-back. It was very stiff out of the box, but quickly smoothed out. However, I never expect to be able to flick it, nor any of my lock-backs.

I do have a few outright flippers for fun.
