Delivered However not to me

I got my neighbors package from the street over. I came home to my fiancé opening it, I looked at the label and said this isn’t ours what are you doing? She just said she didn’t even look to see, thought it was something I bought. I brought them their package and explained what had happened. A month or so later, I had a package that said delivered and I got home to no package. Later that night I got a knock on my door, it was the same neighbor they had given me their package a month before. I now have a camera up in front of my house. Says delivered.... riiiiiiiight. Delivered to whom? Not to me. I’m lucky the neighbor returned the package, because once that “delivered” pops up, everyone washes their hands of any responsibility. Must’ve been stolen. Sure.

That sucks big time. I always send with a signature confirmation so I know who actually received the package vs being left on a porch. Hopefully this will turn up. Maybe post a sign with what happened a neighbor will actually come forward...just a thought

Anytime a knife is delivered to a mailbox or home WITHOUT signature required, is an opportunity for theft. Having it sent to a locked mailbox (tossed onto the floor in a hallway?) further exacerbates a bad situation.

Having insurance is the responsibility of the seller. Having 'signature required' is also to their benefit, yet in this case, would have benefitted you even more.

Spend the extra $$ and go through the extra trouble to go to the PO for a held sig required (whn no one is there.) You just proved its value.

I'm sorry for your loss. I ship just about NOTHING without a signature, and I ship a LOT.

Part of the problem IMO, is that the USPS is policing itself and gives itself the benefit of the doubt on the delivery when clearly mistakes happen. I have gotten tracking information that says the item was left with me. It was left alone on the porch. I have had carriers leave packages that require a signature without getting one. (I don't know how they get around this.) So, I don't know how much they can make up and get away with.

Like a previous poster, we have received others' mail and others have received ours, so USPS is not perfect enough to give the tie to themselves just because it says delivered or signed for.

I generally pay for all purchases with a credit card, just because the card companies' protections are better. They will fight harder than PayPal will & are not limited by PayPal's decision.
As a seller, I ship with a signature requirement most of the time (not worth it for inexpensive items; but for $200 or more, yeah. I admit it's a hassle, as I hate having to go to the post office to sign for packages (I'm rarely available to sign on the day of delivery, especially now that the mail is usually 2 hours later than it used to be)

Guessin I have to eat 265

I feel one needs to ask
If the shoe were on the sellers foot. Would he just lay down and eat a loss like this. Sorry folks
I think not. No one would.

The seller wont lay down and eat 265 either I dont give a crap who you are or what kind of BS you feed me.

This isn’t a 39.99 Kershaw

I agree
More people than not
They wash their hands after it shows delivery

Sorry. I just can’t go that and make a buyer eat that loss

Just me
I’ve paid out because it wasn’t
Buyers fault.
It was the right thing to do
To work out a resolution

I get it
Hoping folks read this and draw their own conclusion

Seller has yet to reach out
I will let folks know privately any info they might wish regarding
Myself or the seller

What a shitty deal all around . I suggest signature only on your end now Keith . Just is not worth the inconvenience. I once had a Japanese tanto shipped to my neighbors house . They showed up a couple days later with it . Boy I was relieved. I feel your pain .

It’s hard to say what is the right thing to do... if the package was delivered to the wrong address, then the post office should pay what is insured. If they don’t accept responsibility for their mistake, Buyer/Seller should split the cost. As one party shouldn’t be fully liable in that case, the post office should. In your case, a locked mailbox, I feel like there should have been some kind of signature confirmation/ hold, as stated above, because the likelihood of a package getting stolen if dropped for all to see is much higher than at a private residence. (My small knife boxes get put inside my mailbox at my front door.) it seems though, you are surely not new to buying and selling with significant feedback, so this must be a one time thing? If it were me, I would surely go signature confirmation at a minimum moving forward. I don’t know that I could pay money, due to a locked mailbox delivery being stolen, if that is the case. Unfortunately, you will never know what really happened to your package. That information being a crucial factor in the recovery of the item/funds, it is hard to say who is mostly responsible, or partly responsible. Signature Confirmation should put every package in your hands though.

Edit: after rereading your post, it seems I misunderstood, and the post office says they put the package in your locked mailbox nobody could’ve stolen a package from! In that case, I feel like it absolutely couldn’t be your fault, and would split the cost with you. Do unto others as you would want done unto you. With your feedback, I would trust you, in this case. Obviously there are new members or some, that I would not.

USPS should admit they screwed up and pay what is insured!

It is a bad situation all around ... I do know twice I have gotten notification of a package being delivered got home ...no package ... spoke with the Post Master and the carrier although they are not supposed to do it sometimes scan a package before its actually delivered and they did come later that day or the next.

But as of late all the threads I have read and seen of scammers and lost or stolen packages I have put off selling several knives I have sorted to sell ... and have been trying to decide the best way to go about it with the best possible outcomes ...

I'm not sure you can ever fully illiminate the possibilty of a problem ... but I have come to a conclusion that a Signiture Confirmation is actually a better option then even insurance ...

that being said I would recommend using insurance always but I do not think unless I have developed a relationship with someone to a point that I will ever sell or buy without insisting on Signiture Confirmation ...

just far to much scamming theft and "lost" packages lately ...

just my 2 cents worth

No this has happened a few times with various packages

It has to do with irresponsible
Postal employees.

This is not a buyer seller issue
Still not feeling good about eating that kind of cash

I didn’t Ask and or it wasn’t my choosing to ship signature and or insured. That’s on buyer

I think you all for opinions
I appreciate it.

In this case, apparently insurance didn’t even matter. USPS takes no fault cause it was delivered to your locked mailbox it was not in. Now give them more money for that signature requirement.

Of course there is no recourse for this... seems absolutely ridiculous. With no proof though, how can you fight it? I surely would still want to keep bothering them about it.

I have always been of the belief that the seller is responsible until the item is delivered. Just because the USPS says "delivered", in this case the purchaser did not receive the item; it's not in Gizmoman's hands.

As the seller, I would consider the reputation of the buyer, in this case untarnished and well established.

Thus, I would believe the buyer that the knife was not received and offer a refund, and then proceed with whatever recourse would be available through the shipper (USPS), who was MY agent for in the transaction that I made responsible for the shipment and subsequent delivery of the package.

I would assume at that point the buyer would offer some form of participation in the remediation, since I believe that is just the nature of a gentleman.

That is just how I would handle it, and yes, it would not be a happy time for anyone involved. However, stuff happens and the more participation in the trade/sell/buy arena, the more opportunity for defect.

It is my sincere wish that the knife turns up having been part of the rare USPS malfunction.

best

I have not been hit with this problem...yet. I am sorry that you did.
One friend who ships out a lot of fixed blades...and got tired of having them NOT delivered has told me that he now ships with FED EX or UPS. More reliable, and you don't have to wait forever to collect on insurance...

Sorry for your loss.

But seller completed his end.
PayPal agrees and so do I.

This.

Also, is English your first language? Just checking before further comment. Nothing bad.... maybe it just bugs me to see such incomplete sentences.

Damn,...karma can be a big fat bee-atch sometimes cant she?.....

Why would you ever post this about someone? Bad circumstances for both the seller and buyer and you run it in? If it were possible, you would deserve negative feedback for your post
