Designing a folding knife for Spyderco

Scratch that. One critique: The tip-down carry option is something I don't think anyone would utilize. If you kept it tip-up, reverse-able I think the cleanliness would generate more appeal. Do you know anyone that carries a 150.00 dollar plus knife and carries tip-down? Just more thoughts. I could be off-base.

You have a fantastic record for suggestions. Always on base. Except this time. ;)

I want tip down. I dropped tip up after I got my Millie. Since then, tip up makes no sense to me. Sorry to disappoint you. I'll gladly go tip down only though, then you'll have the great clean aesthetics you're looking for, right? :D

I guess I keep thinking of folding knives from a wave-opening point of view. Tip down only would absolutely work concerning this design. Thumb opening would be as fast as a wave (for all intents) with a tip-down clip drawn into the filipino grip like a Yojimbo. Snappy. Good thinking. Frank Bram is a huge proponent of tip-down carry and I've always thought his methodology was solid. Check out his folder. For the record, I feel as though your design is superior, and getting better every day.

I agree with the tip down. I mostly carried tip up because that seemed the most common so I figured it was the best way to carry. I actually stayed away from a Millie for a while because there was no option for tip up. Once I got the Millie I found it made a lot more sense to carry a knife that long tip down. It's obviously personal preference and it makes sense to offer all 4 clip options, but on this design, with a 4.25 inch blade, I think the best would be tip down.

I was actually sort of bracing for not liking the Millie because of the tip down only, but ended up being surprised how natural it seemed.

Well I was teasing at that point, I wouldn't want to deprive the uppers of their favorite carry method. There are many who refuse to buy a Millie because it's tip down only, but I have never heard of someone refusing to buy a knife because it has 4 clip positions. And if the Manix 2 XL had tip down, I probably never would have gone after the Yojumbo, or designed this. I love the CBBL an awful lot, but I stopped carrying it because tip up.

I have to agree with you on your position on clip positions.

In my position I see how juxtaposition of my position isn't an imposition of my position on clip position, and as you're a musician, your enhanced cognition can make admission that my abscission of tip up position need not play part in my decision on the Spyderco Astrid tip position.

I have removed the pics from this thread due to the suggestion of @Sal Glesser over on the Spyderco Forums. I hope I have not accidentally done irreparable damage to the possibility of seeing this knife come to light, and going forward (as I should have in the first place I think, mea culpa) I will seek Spyderco's guidance on how much to say publicly on this. Thank you for understanding.
