Destroyed a new Strider and my thumb..

So I have plenty of experience sharpening knives and using the wicked edge.. I must say I'm just pissed right now.

I'm sharpening my db because it was no sharper than a butter knife, and one section of the blade has a section that will not sharpen at all, and somehow the bevels are all curvy and uneven.

The tanto tip was ground uneven, which might be why I'm having such a fit with it. No part of sharpening this knife has made any sense to me. I've been at it for 3 hours and my brand new knife looks like crap.

What the heck is going on? Can anybody point me in the right direction? I always get great results I've never encountered something like this. Look at the weird curvy uneven bevels and hopefully the uneven tanto grind can be seen in the pic, it actually was ground pretty uneven. Any help would be appreciated.

Bottom line I know this is my fault but how the heck could this happen? The clamp is tightened all the way, the blade hasn't moved. Oh and I've tired over the period of having to use the dang 100 grits so long trying to even things out that my hand slipped and cut my thumb wide open. What a night!

Never seen anything like that happen w/the WEPS. I would say, email Clay but, You mentioned the clamp is tight ... I wonder if at any point your arm locks (on the angle bar) wandered.
Tantos are done as if two separate edges but the irregular material removal seems like a wandering arm angle which would cause your strokes to be uneven.
I'd contact Clay - He is great at helping and "Is" the Expert.
Good luck

Neither have I. I do all my tantos as two separate edges. It just happened on this knife.. Recently I installed the pro pack upgrade, I've done a couple knives though that didn't do this. I'm at a loss

I may be wrong, but it could be that the main bevels are uneven or wavy, kinda like the metal is dished, giving you the appearance of an uneven edge?

It really looks like that especially in the pics of the tip.

Even if that isn't the case, I would still want a new blade.

Eta: unless it's just a shadow, even the the pic showing the whole blade appears to be dished just above the clamp.

No offense but that looks horrible.

The grind on the tanto tip is for sure very uneven. So much that to get the bevel to look the same on each side I would have to make one side more than a degree less than the other. It's totally uneven.

On the main edge I can't tell if it's uneven.. You're saying you'd contact strider about it? I know the tip is definitely not ground even. I don't understand why the edge I'm creating is all wavy and weird too, it's almost like the actual metal isn't flat?

Like I said I have never experienced anything like this. I need some major help

Are you sure the cross bar the arms mount on is tight ?

The W/E should correct it.

Something is moving/loose on your W/E.

Check out the strider web site. Info for spa treatments is there. Make sure you follow their directions for shipping it to them. They are pretty good about taking care of the his sort of thing. Best of luck.

Been there man, sometimes you've got to walk away from the weps. Uneven mfr grinds can lead to maddening endeavors with the we. Send it back to strider and let em fix it.

Thanks guys, yes everything looks dead tight on the weps. It's just this knife thats seems to be having this crazy looking bevel.

You think strider would really take care of this for me? That would be so awesome. I just am super bummed that I took this out of the package today and this is what it looks like now.

I have no clue how this is happening cause everything is dead tight on my sharpener.

Strider will make it right. That's been my experience anyway. Just don't use usps when you ship because they don't get deliveries on Saturday. Go with the private couriers.

Thanks. I guess I will email them on Monday. I just don't understand what's going on here

I have never had issues with USPS for Saturday parcel service. Only issues I had were when my mailman was a useless idiot who decided to "miss" delivering packages or not have them be signed for when we are in the yard when he speeds off before we can sign.

Are you sure the jaws aren't bent?

Wow man that knife is messed up.

This is 100% a factory grind problem. Send it in for a replacement.
