Destroyed a new Strider and my thumb..

Then obviously it's my mis-diagnosed :foot:

I just don't know what to think or make of it it's wild. I'm gonna try and not worry too much about it and see what strider says. I'm convinced so far it's a factory grind issue. I've never ran into this sharpening a knife

MO: without looking at your other Strides I would guess someone was not putting constant pressure throughout the strokes but after seeing you other SMFs is either you were high doing this one :D (JK) or is a grind issue.
You mentioned you "just got the pro pack". Was this your first knife with the pro pack? I got a weird arm one time and needed to exchange it. WES did with no questions asked.
Good luck and keep us posted. Send Josh a PM/email and explain the situation and send it in if that is the course you want to take. Trouble shoot the new pro pack for me please
Good luck!

PS: yeah, looks like $hit sorry :p

Haha thanks man! Yes I agree it does totally look like my own issue but it is not. I have done a few knives with the pro pack upgrade and no issues except with this one. I sent an email yesterday to strider and I'll let everyone know what he says

Striders are not hand ground, thus they are all the same. It is ur wicked edge that is sharpening it all wonky. Also that knife is for destruction is it's not all that sharp.

If the grind from the factory is off the WEPS is going to change angles where the change in the blade is. So if the blade is a 20 degrees on most of the length, but say 21 degrees where the problem is, the WEPS is going to change angles where the blade changes...I think. To fix it w/the WEPS you need to bring the whole blade down but leave the bent area alone...I think. If you send it to Strider an experienced blade grinder will just use a belt sander and straighten it out by hand. Using a jig like WEPS isn't going to work because the WEPS uses the edge as a guide and if the edge is off the WEPS will be off...I think. The whole edge needs to be brought down to the low part of the grind which will take a lot of time by hand, it will take about 30 seconds w/a good grinder like what Strider Knives uses.

I agree. I sent the knife off yesterday and josh said they will sharpen it. I said there's a pretty bad difference in the grinds on the tanto tip so at least grind those so they are even. I hope they just replace it because flat grinds on the tip are wayyy off. I'm sure the main flat grinds are way off too. Whatever, we shall see what they end up doing. Not holding my breath. I'm sure it will come back in working order but I certainly hope I will be able to sharpen my dang knife on a guided sharpener without it looking like this next time.

If his WE did that I want one, because it was able to grind that much steel off before he had time to notice. A belt sander is barely capable of that for a mildly attentive sharpener.

It is definitely not his WE unless he decided to sharpen for an hour without ever checking the knife or noticing that his angles were horribly off.

Just to update, to make absolutely sure it was not me or my wicked edge I grabbed a knife I don't care about and began sharpening it. It's up to 600 grit right now and it looks absolutely perfect.

I had to leave the house for a bit so I will put pics up of it tonight. I can say with 100 percent certainty it was the knife. So I really hope strider replaces it.

I have a WE and have had nothing like this happen. Weird that factory grind could cause this but seems you covered all potential options. Let's us know if Strider just replaces it for you and what they say. Good luck!

Never seen something like this either. I will keep everyone updated!

Here is the junk knife with a perfect edge just did it yesterday. It was definitely the knife that was wackyImageUploadedByTapatalk1401398191.126237.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1401398200.691898.jpg

So I have plenty of experience sharpening knives and using the wicked edge.. I must say I'm just pissed right now.

I'm sharpening my db because it was no sharper than a butter knife, and one section of the blade has a section that will not sharpen at all, and somehow the bevels are all curvy and uneven.

The tanto tip was ground uneven, which might be why I'm having such a fit with it. No part of sharpening this knife has made any sense to me. I've been at it for 3 hours and my brand new knife looks like crap.

What the heck is going on? Can anybody point me in the right direction? I always get great results I've never encountered something like this. Look at the weird curvy uneven bevels and hopefully the uneven tanto grind can be seen in the pic, it actually was ground pretty uneven. Any help would be appreciated.

Bottom line I know this is my fault but how the heck could this happen? The clamp is tightened all the way, the blade hasn't moved. Oh and I've tired over the period of having to use the dang 100 grits so long trying to even things out that my hand slipped and cut my thumb wide open. What a night!

I don't know anything when it comes to your sharpening issue, but I will tell you that it still looks better than the first time I attempted to flat grind a knife. My grind lines look worse than your edge does....

Damn! Bummer. Oh well, it happens.

I had nightmares about stuff like this before I put my first high end knife on the WEPS. Knock on wood I haven't had anything neat this bad. Hope this gets sorted out.
