Did you ever look at your knives and say enough is enough?

I've said "enough is enough" with certain segments of my knife collection, but never with all of them. When I first got here, for example, I was entirely into fixed blades. After buying several of them, I came to the realization that I'd never carry or use them. I'm not the kind of person who believes that if you don't use your knives, you've got no reason to live. But it's nice to have knives that you can actually hold in your hand, admire, cut stuff with when you need to, and carry around an office without ending up in HR explaining to someone why you're carrying a "weapon". So at a certain in point in time, I made the decision to move exclusively to folders and I sold most of my fixed-blades. I haven't bought a new fixed-blade in years, but I haven't been quick to get rid of the remaining ones I've got either.

I'm pretty maxed out on folders at this point. On the other hand, I never completely give up the hunt. If I see something I really like, I'll buy it. So I guess when it comes to folders, enough won't ever be enough for me.

Yes. I have to stop sooner or later. Keep rotating some though is what i mostly do now. Trying to find the ones that fit me best. All i really need is 1 fillet knife, 1 folding knife, 1 mutli tool, and 1 big fixed but have at least 5 or more in each catagory.

I have yet to sell any of my collection, but I think that I may soon. There are a few that I just "had to have", and my tastes are just going in a different direction now.

Been there, actually did something about it by paring it all down to a few favorites, then I visited the GEC factory and now I own 6 of those. I enjoy my small collection, but it's time to cool it when I get that "high" ordering a new knife way too often and I'm really trying to break that cycle....gotta keep it healthy and not a burden, that's my jihad.

jihad?

All I was looking for was an EDC blade to accompany my CC, then I joined BFs to figure out which one to get. Even with all the great advice, I couldn't tell without the personal experience. So I started to buy one after another, but now I have more knives than I know what do with. I now know what I like and enough should be enough, but there always seems to be one more to get. It has become an addiction.

I say that every time I buy a Knife or a Gun ~~ enough is enough but then there is always just one more and I will quit.!
Bet I have said that a thousand times over the years but something will stop me in a few years or so.!!**

I definitely have enough knive but I am probably not finished buying. I have slowed down a lot and only buy ones I really want and I think about each purchase for a while. I will probably never quit completely until I can't afford to buy any more.

I only NEED my Victorinox Super Tinker, Spyderco Delica, Leatherman Charge, and Ontario Blackbird SK-5. Everything beyond that is for fun.

Except for the blades and mutlitools I keep in my BOBs, all I really need is my Leatherman Micra. I can accomplish practically everything else I need to with a pair of ordinary office shears. But that's not the point. The point is, I love knives. Call it an addiction or call it a passion, I'm hooked. And I'm not coming unhooked anytime soon.

Yeah. I have a drawer full of knives that I take out once every couple years and go, "Huh, forgot I had that" then they go right back in. I should sell a few and get 1 or 2 I've been drooling over.

I said, "Enough is enough!" when I had a handful of knives that I was afraid too use-I didn't want too hurt the "value". Now I use everything I got. If I get a knife I don't think I will use --It gets traded or sold. I did cull the herd down to 5-6 from 25 (ish). :D

Sure, I've said that every time I bought one: and I'll probably say it several more times.

Pretty much the way I feel now. I have no particular knife in mind that I seriously want. But when a knife like the lw manix2 in s110v comes around, that is an innovation that is hard for me to resist. Not meant to be an endorsement, but just an example of the kind of things that appeal to me now.

Yep, that happened a while back and so I put the brakes on the rapid accumulation. Bought maybe two in the last year and I use the hell out of them. Probably thinking I'm going to sell a bunch, since my lifestyle has changed and there are categories I barely use anymore. But I keep looking and lusting. Kinda wish I could break that :)

Struggling right now because I've got tons of knives in places where I do pretty much need them, but a lot of them don't get used much. Sucks to never get to play with 'em.

Field boots - Candiru
Lunch drawer at work - Opinel No. 8
Briefcase - Leatherman PS4
each of three cars - one in toolbag in back, a hideout, and a MT in the center console.
Altoid fire kit - Wohlwend PSK
survival kit - Izula
for fieldwork - another Izula
tackle box - an Opinel No. 8 that I glued open
bedside - KaBar Heavy Bowie
workbench - old OLD beater

There have been enough times where I needed a knife and didn't have one that I adopted this idea of having them stashed everywhere. Gives me a feeling of security although typically whichever folder or FB I'm carrying is what I actually end up using... but then again, there have been those times where I didn't have my EDC and then was happy I had a stash knife.

What also sucks is the thirty knives I have sitting in the knife box... it's nice to have toys, but I can't handle having so many sit collecting dust. So I'm pretty sure that a gold membership and a run through The Exchange is in my future... as well as a large machete, another Fletcher, probably a JK, a cocobolo STREK, and etc :)
