Did your Traditional knife get a workout today? -Part II

Still tilting trenchant steel at the pokeweed.

Gave a test in a class today, and wore my lucky tie as I've done for taking or giving mathematics tests since 1969. But today was the first time I used a Vic Alox money clip as a tie clasp!:D

Very nice! If you mean the same tie since 1969 I'm guessing it's been in and out of style several times now through all the the skinny tie and wide tie trends.

I have to ask, though, as I'm genuinely curious -- since you were giving a test I'm assuming that's at a school. Knowing how "nuts" people have gotten with regard to "weapons" around schools I wonder if you've ever run into any problems with this. Of course, no "rational" person would consider that a weapon, but then neither is an "L"-shaped Pop-Tart® ...

Mine got a work out for sure !
It must of went from my pocket to the table then out of the slip to the coffee table and back again at least 20 times while it was thinking about cutting some receipt paper but never did . Also striking a pose for many pictures.
Geesh that was exhausting I bet for the little feller :D

Sigh. I'll enjoy your pictures of sliced cheese and fried foods, while my Kent helps me keep my cholesterol down.
Lots of fruit and vegetable prepping today.

That Sportsman knife cleaned up (and sharpened up) very nicely, r8shell.:thumbsup: (I just got the results of annual lab tests, and should probably join you in working on cholesterol - I have too much of the bad and too little of the good :( (but I'm exemplary on triglycerides ;))!)

Good to see your ebony Lambsfoot back in the field Chin :) Mine helped me cook a stir-fry the other night

I'm envious of your haute cuisine, Jack!!:cool::thumbsup:;) And I always appreciate the "validation" of someone else using their traditional folders in the kitchen, since that's the main use I can find for my knives in my current life.:thumbsup::D

What a great idea GT never tried it on a tie but I have carried this old Winchester money clip for years instead of a wallet. It has a finger nail file and pen blade.

Looking good, Randy!!:thumbsup::cool::cool: I carry too much "necessary" stuff in my wallet to switch to only a money clip, but I've considered moving to a "front pocket wallet" that's much smaller than my current "traditional" wallet (I've always called them "billfolds", though ). I even bought one of the front pocket models on sale to try out. But my current old-fashioned wallet is less than 3 years old, made of Spanish leather, and it's a Christmas gift my daughter gave me when I visited her in Spain, so I doubt if I'll make a change any time soon. ;)

Ace, I've worn that same tie since 1969, but I'm not sure if it was EVER in style! :D:rolleyes: I bought it when the instructor in my first college calculus class told us that ties in which the stripes had positive slope were quite rare, so I went out to find one. In addition to the positive slope stripes, I tried to get as much "spirit of the 60s" as I could in the tie, so it's kind of electric blue, and has lots of "paisley vibe" in addition to the stripes, and it is reasonably wide.

I teach at a college and I take sort of a "don't ask, don't tell" approach to carrying knives on campus. I know guns of any kind are strictly prohibited, but I've never seen any regulations about knives, nor have I explicitly inquired about official policy. But my job takes me to lots of local middle schools and high schools, and I routinely leave all my knives (and I typically carry several) in the car before entering the schools.

Thanks, it's a wicked slicer. I hope I'm in as good shape when I'm 80 years old.
Speaking of which, keep an eye on that cholesterol. My doctor put the fear in me about it, so I'm doing my best to get it under control. Eating the healthy vegetables is helping, and it gives me an excuse to use knives, so it's all good. :)

LOL! Thanks my friend :D I'm afraid I don't get to skin too many alligators myself these days :D ;)

5K Qs 5K Qs maybe when you retire, you can have your lucky tie turned into a Micarta that could be used for scales on a lucky knife! :D

:D

Based on the history of your tie I suspect you also have a few slide rules around somewhere. (I think I still have four of them.) :p

That's a GREAT idea, Barrett!! ;):thumbsup::cool::thumbsup::thumbsup: I don't think of myself as someone who'd ever "spring for" a custom folder, but maybe finding someone to turn the tie into micarta covers for one of my favorite knives is not outside the realm of possibility! :D

I find the cholesterol thing kind of frustrating. :( When I first exceeded the "acceptable norms", I cut out my nightly brownie with ice cream, and added some exercise to my daily routine. My numbers got better, but by my next annual exam, the "threshold" had been lowered, so I was still in violation! I'd have to check the details over the past 15-20 years, but I'll bet my cholesterol numbers keep improving, but rarely as fast as the criterion changes!

There's only so many alligator boots and belts a man can wear, right?? ;):D:D

I don't know why, but my image of you was someone much too young to remember slide rules! :D:D
I actually have about 30 of them in a bag in my office, a classroom set that a retiring high school teacher gave me several years ago (I passed on her offer of a huge "demo version" like the one installed over the chalk board in my high school science classroom ;)). Here's one used as a prop in a knife photo I took a while ago (thanks to Ken for the Cadet II):

Very true my friend! :D I've done hunting grizzlies too! ;)

Perhaps you have confused me with my much younger alter ego / secret identity... Wow, 30 slide rules! Yes, I even remember the Pickett vs. Post "wars," which are somewhat the precursor to the current Apple vs. Android debates. :D (I still have my Post Versalog as well as a Pickett circular.)

I used my little imperial peanut quite a bit in getting my diy Halloween decorations ready and or out in the yard.
( A few store bought ones )

Jack, buddy I'm always neck deep in alligators and paddling like a mad dog. You're welcome to skin out any of my gators ya feel a need to!

I was helping my brother work on his truck the other day. I went to go trim up these valve cover gaskets with the provided X-Acto knife and it kept falling apart on me. Not to be deterred, I brought out one of the other knives I had on me and it made pretty short work of the gaskets.

Problem Solved.

My 2017 Guardians Lambsfoot bisected a chip butty for me today! ;) :D
