Did your Traditional knife get a workout today? -Part II

Cool stuff, scruffuk!
Many years ago I dabbled at brewing, always wanted to try using ginger...
Ahhh, fuggles! :)
(Sweet knife too!)

Blimey, they sure are charging for hops these days!

I've got an antique garden bench, made around 100 years ago from teak taken from a British ship captured by the French at the Battle of Trafalgar. For the past six months or so, because of some renovation work on my house, it's been covered up with plastic sheeting, as has my other garden furniture. Since I'll probably move house sometime this year, the bench is going to a pal on a long-term loan. So I've just been out in the garden with my Aitor Castor Pequena cutting a dozen or so cable ties which were holding the sheeting in place. Unfortunately, one of the two padlocks securing the bench is jammed, so I'm going to have to get the hacksaw out too :(

I absolutely love fiery ginger flavours jwren. If you get back into it you should give it a whirl.

Well apparently there is a hop shortage Jack.....

......probably because they are over-hopping all those otherwise tasteless beers mind!

Thankfully the extract I used was pre-hopped (for bitterness). I just made a 30g hop tea for a bit of extra flavour (20g boiled for ten mins, then the remaining 10g steeped). With all that ginger root its pretty bitter already :-/

That may be too hard for a hacksaw sir, you may want to try a cutoff wheel, bolt cutters, or a good ole' 303 Brit.

Just gi'it a whack wit'hammer lad!

:D
I like the way you think! :)

Thanks for the advice fellers. It's only a cheap lock, more for show than anything else (since determined thieves could have cut through the wood). My neighbour owns an angle-grinder I can borrow if needed, and besides it'll do my mate good to have a work-out! :D

That's a tasty burger.....

A little leftover salmon and roasted peppers from last night's grill-out made for a great b-fast this morning:

We decided cutting the chain was the best way to go, didn't take long, even though it needed two cuts. Got to use my knife again when I had to tie down the rear door of my mate's car when it wasn't quite big enough to hold the bench.

Going to have some more strawberries and cream now! :)

Started out as an attempted arrow-head, still don't know what it is now, fancy paperweight I suppose.

Knife is a Crucible Co. Pen knife I won from Vanguard41xx and it's become one of my staple desk knives.

I'm very pleased with it, Scruff gave it me on Friday and I've barely stopped using it since. The blade shape looked a bit odd at first, but it actually works pretty good. It's great in the kitchen and a great slicer. The knife is light, has a very positive snap, a half-stop, and while there's no nail-nick, there's plenty of blade to grip. The handle is nice and comfortable, and folded, it takes up little space in the pocket. Definitely reccomended

Stormy season is over, so stuff that was tied down over the winter is being untied. Or to be precise, lazily cut. (Cheap nylon rope anyway)

Trimmed a load of green beans for the freezer...

and ate a few of them ;)

Great looking food Jack :)

I was welcomed to work this morning by finding the trailer lights cut from someone basically throwing it off their truck the evening before . The wharnie excels at separating and striping wire for sure. I knew I liked the blade shape, I have just been worried about breaking the fine tip that makes it so great. So far, so good :)

My Castor Pequena sharpened a pencil so I could write in my notebook. Had to do it discreetly as I was on a crowded bus! :D
