Did your Traditional knife get a workout today? -Part II

I woke up with a boat load of work to do reached for my trusty Opinel #9, and the old Camillus looked liked it wanted to work, in the pocket it went and work it did cutting up cardboard to cover cabinets, making clean cuts in edging tape, the knife was magic, it cuts like a light saber.

My Bullnose got to cut up a might fine roast beef today. And then the dog got to taste that same roast beef when he licked the blade after the sodbuster fell off the counter and onto the floor. Luckily I got to him quick before he could cut himself (was in need of a touch up so wasn't super sharp at the time thankfully), but he enjoyed the couple licks he got. The sodbuster hasn't reported it's feelings on the dropping or the licking. Definitely a flat spot on the edge, but no damage. Time to go sharpen it back up!

Jack, Pete, and the rest of us are not the only ones who recognize the value of a traditional knife for food prep. I snapped this photo from this month's issue of bon appétit magazine in a two page spread about cooking for a picnic.

Here is a link to the article (the pictures in the magazine are better than the online post).

Thanks for the link Doug, nice to see that :)

Good to see.

How is it coming along patina-wise Jack??

I forgot my pocket knife of any kind today.
Felt naked all day.

For some reason, the patina on my Aitor knife is coming very slowly. I received an Antonini the same day and it has a lot more patina with more or less the same amount of usage. It is a great knife, by the way, both of them.

I didn't get any action shots but this one gets some use. I cut up some barbecue (pork and turkey) and sharpened a pencil. There is just something deeply satisfying about sharpening a new pencil with a pocket knife.

Can you give some info about this knife? Looks hand made, what's its story?

Everyone knows you're not supposed to cut bbq pork, you pull it apart! Oh wait, I see you're from TX...:D
