I might be wrong, but I believe its a Caucasian Mountain dog, and they are pretty much the toughest canines around.

mountain lions on average weigh between 120-150 pounds with some even reaching 200lbs. I doubt that a 75-90lb german shepherd or black lab could compete

The only thing a dog may be good for against a cougar is to distract it enough to let you get away while the cougar demolishes the dog! No way a dog could take on a cougar. Now the cougar might be too lazy to do anything about it if it wasn't necessary, but if the cougar wanted to that dog wouldn't last more than a minute.

I saw this same discussion on another board one time, although that was a discussion on whether a dog could take on a wolf. Some said that dogs bred specifically for fighting would have a chance, while most people agreed that the dog would die quickly. Of course wolves hunt in packs from what I have read, so I doubt a single wolf would ever have to take on a dog. Any dog, or basically any living thing in North America, is dead meat against a pack of wolves.

Wolves and mountain lions have killed for everything they have ever eaten. Dogs are given food, shown love and live around humans all the time. They never have to kill. I think any dog is dead meat versus a cougar, although dogs such as the one above may put up a good fight.
