Digging Up Buried Knives

About four years ago, I buried some knives. I wrote down what they were (brand, model, fixed or folder), what steel (most were stainless, some were carbon) and what rust preventative they were coated with. After labeling and coating them, I put them in a length of PVC pipe and made it watertight. There were two silica packets - one on each end of the pipe - placed in. The pipe was then buried about three feet below ground. I'm going to dig them up tomorrow (I buried them before we moved and I have been notified that our old place is now public land). I'm anxious to see what they look like. Here's my list...
1. Frosts' Craftsman in carbon steel. Treated with Tuff Glide.
2. Frosts' Craftsman in stainless steel. Treated with Tuff Glide.
3. Buck 110. Treated with WD-40.
4. Frosts' S-1 in laminated steel. Treated with Hoppe's rust preventative.
5. Opinel No. 9 in carbon steel. Treated with Break Free CLP.
6. Spyderco Endura in VG-10. Treated with simichrome polish.
7. Kershaw Leek in 440A. Treated with RemOil.
8. Spyderco Dragonfly in AUS-8. Treated with Renaissance Wax.
9. Kabar standard issue in carbon steel. Treated with WD-40.
10. Victorinox Camper in stainless steel. Treated with Hoppe's rust preventative.
11. Case Sodbuster Jr. in carbon steel. Treated with RemOil.
12. Buck 110 untreated.
13. Case Sodbuster Jr. in carbon steel, also untreated.

I'm going to try to borrow a camera for the unburying, and I'm hoping to do it tomorrow. If I can't borrow one, then I'll have to hold off on the excavation. Stay tuned, it's gonna be tight y'all!

Cool.

This should be interesting. I bet they are all fine, sounds like they were wrapped up pretty good.

Cool! Definitely post some pics before you open it and after. Hopefully someone did not find them before you. :D

Just to clarify: the knives were coated with their respective protectants, and then placed into the PVC pipe. No wrapping or bags were used; just the knives (in their sheaths if fixed blades) placed into the tube and then the silica, then sealed.

I'll definitely be shooting lots of photos, so this could be delayed by a day or two until I can use a camera. I've spied in on the area a few times, and the site looks undisturbed as of today.

4 years ago.. Damn.. You have some patience..
I would have dug em up in about a month..
I am very excited.. And if they are really ugly.. I will take em for ya...

I could see where this is going. Out of curiousity, what steel are guns made from?

Come on all ready ..........Why did you have to tell us 1 day ahead of time? that just plain cruel.:grumpy:
Then again, I'm pretty happy you did not tell us 4 years ago:D

Everybody: I was unable to use a camera today, and I'm not digging them up without taking pictures. I'm trying hard to get one for tomorrow, so please be patient. I'm just as anxious as you are :D
I might host a give-away for some of the survivors, but I'm not sure yet. Stay tuned.
