Digging Up Buried Knives

I'd say the steel will be fine. I'm more curious if the chemicals had any effect on the wood and leather.

I put them in a length of PVC pipe and made it watertight. There were two silica packets - one on each end of the pipe - placed in.

Without reference to the specific cases at-hand, silica gel packets can cause as much trouble as they might prevent.

Silica gel packets don't magically make moisture go away. They absorb moisture and hold it. But, under the right circumstances (primarily changes in temperature) they can re-release that moisture becoming the source of the very problem they were intended to prevent.

To properly use them, Silica Gel packets must be baked immediately before they're sealed into the container they are to protect. Generally, the process is to bake at about 300F for 18 hours... yes, 18 hours. Packets that you've saved from things you've received are generally saturated with water by the time you get them. If you don't go through the baking process, not only will they not do any good to protect against moisture, but they can easily backfire becoming a source of moisture inside of a sealed container... a forumula for rust.

Nah, no joke here. I had passed by the burial site today and it's totally crowded with kids and families, so it appears that I have to wait another day to dig them up. I'll be trying early in the morning tomorrow. Sorry for making everybody wait. If it makes you feel any better, I've decided to host separate give-aways for the survivors.
Just dig it and if they look at you, do this:

Definitely bring a rolled up carpet and dig it up in the middle of the day. Proceed to smell, and lick the blades clean.

Maybe it's not just knives he's got stashed there.....corpses,drugs,guns:eek: Hence his seeming reluctance to unearth them, maybe we just need to wait 4 decades:D

Update: I dug the knives up, only to discover that my camera was filming on a low battery. I got about 18 seconds of footage before the battery died. I didn't realize when it died, so I continued to dig. I have the tube in my backyard now, still unopened, but the only footage I have of the unearthing is 18 seconds of me breaking the soil with a shovel. I'm very tempted to open the tube, but I promised that I'd get photos of it. Being at work right now, I'm very anxious to get back home and hope that my battery has a good enough charge to get some photos (screw the video; it will eat my battery up).

I will say however that the tube is still in great condition, albeit scratched and muddy. I've decided to give away all of the knives inside, no matter what condition they're in. Now I have to think of a way to give away 13 knives while being fair and creative.

Now I have to think of a way to give away 13 knives while being fair and creative.

The obvious solution is to give them all to me. It seems more than fair in my opinion, and noone will see it coming so that's creative. :p

I find your ideas intriguing and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

I'll figure something out... ;)

And to make it REALLY creative, you can tell everyone you're giving them all to kiahs, but actually give them to ME! Now wouldn't that just throw everyone for a loop? :D :D :D

So sayeth Homer Simpson to his son Bart. That's worth a knife, right?

Just kidding man, great idea, I'm waiting impatiently to see how it pans out!

:D

You could give them to the first 13 people who replied to your post. (I'm not one of them.)

Can't wait for the pics. This sure is an interesting place.

I can't believe everyone is falling for this.

Was it P.T. Barnum who said there was one born every minute.

And who would you be to cast doubt on JNieporte?

JNieporte I know. Kiahs I know. But who are you?

Good point, he does have a fair amount of posts. I will give him the benefit of doubt untill my suspicions are peaked again.

Ok, I have been reading this since yesterday, I think I should have just waited until tomorrow to open this thread X.X

And when I post the pictures and give-away, are you going to apologize for casting doubt on me without reason? I find it inappropriate that you have 19 posts in an 15-month span and are throwing accusations at an established member with 1500 posts in a 73-month span. Everybody here knows who I am; who are you to accuse me of anything?
