Digging Up Buried Knives

Awh man, this sounds like a fun experiment. It all depends on what you sealed that pvc with. Cause pvc isn't going to give in 4 years. The knives probably will go unscathed.

Assuming you got a good seal, and assuming you lowered the temp of the air and knives when they were buried, there ought to be some condensation that forms inside the pipe as the air cooled. Question is whether the silica packs absorbed it all or not. If they did, they may be in good shape - ?

Cut 'em open while they are still cool, and note the amount of moisture present - it shouldn't have changed much in 4 years.

It will be interesting to see the results!

I just came across this thread today.I'm very interested in seeing the pics, when you dig them up.

Seems that if the tube was sealed, and you used a silica gel, that there should be little to no corrosion. Even without the silica, in a small sealed environment, the corrosion would have been drastically limited by the oxygen volume in the container.

No?

I could see where this is going. Out of curiousity, what steel are guns made from?

They had a voluntary hand back of guns in Australia many years ago, you couldn't buy appropriately sized PVC pipe for love or money :D

funnily, demand hasn't been the same since;)

I will be monitoring this thread from now on...

Thanks a lot for sharing your findings!

Bah! I click this thread every time there's a new post! No pics yet! This is surely a belated April Fools joke! :D

Nah, no joke here. I had passed by the burial site today and it's totally crowded with kids and families, so it appears that I have to wait another day to dig them up. I'll be trying early in the morning tomorrow. Sorry for making everybody wait. If it makes you feel any better, I've decided to host separate give-aways for the survivors.

I feel much better now, not that I wasn't feeling great in the first place. :D

I'm kind of enjoying the suspense.

Kevin

My money says their fine, if theres limited oxygen and you used silica in a water tight pvc tube, no oxy. means no rust. I'm all ways in the market for a knife give away!!!!!!!
