Disappointed with Strider

I want to get an SMF in CPM154....

Get one. My CPM-154 SnG is my favorite knife right now.

i once started a thread about being disappointed with a strider knife. it started a huge shitstorm and was never my intention and all kinds of hurt feelings and knife-politics and bad words went around. i think it was all a big misunderstanding. i hope this thread doesn't end up that way.

to answer OP, i think strider has to do that b/c of liability issues, the number of people abusing the warranty, and the number of people "pimping" their knives. i think this sort of thing is a matter of perspective. you think it's ok to mess around with your knife b/c you're just one guy and it's your property. which is fine. but from strider's perspective, they must see hundreds, or thousands of broken knives every week due to user carelessness - each one of them expecting a free, warranty repair. but this really isn't fair to strider, and it wasn't the intent of the warranty.

so to combat this, they put into practice a seemingly strict addendum to their warranty to protect themselves from user carelessness and/or intentional abuse.

i think they are being reasonably fair. strider does stand by their product as long as the user has the integrity to do the right thing.

at least, they have largely done right by me. strider knives probably hate my guts due to some of the controversy i (unintentionally) stirred up years ago. but they've still done right by me. and I've been carrying a strider (or two) daily for probably 10 years.

good luck on your knife! adjust the pivot if you need to. just be careful. it'll probably be ok. and it's a good knife.

I had an sng and i took it apart multiple times and they still honored the warranty. Just make sure you know how to put it back together and dont screw anything up

Yeah, this has always baffled me. Who is into knives enough to be buying a 4-500 dollar knife like an SNG/SMF, but can't take it apart and put it back together correctly? Strider construction is simple as hell (no more bits and pieces than any simple, straight forward folder I've ever owned).

Also, Strider's warranty is about as good as it gets. Just don't pimp the knife, and you're good to go. Oh and as for "losing the knife in transit", was it sent via UPS/Fedex/etc. like Josh asks it to be sent, or was it sent via USPS like Strider says NOT to?

[SUP][/SUP]I love the cpm154 sng I got as well but one complaint I do have is the rough G10, eats the back of hand up when I'm reaching into my pocket. CC version would have cured that I suppose.

Have 2 SnGs! Love them! Plan on grabbing one in CPM154! From what I read the Strider boys know their steel.

I also just got an SnG in CPM-154!!! arctic gray!! i love it! I want an SMF in cpm-154 but i think im gonna wait to see what they do with the FULL SIZE SJ75 folder ;). we shall see!

They're just trying to avoid headaches caused by people who think they can work on knives, but can't. You shouldn't have any problems with it, and if you do happen to have a problem with it, send it to the experts to handle (Strider). They're not a huge company like Kershaw or Buck. Their knives are handmade by a handful of people and warranty work can be troublesome if you're having to fix additional knives due to customers messing them up.

They got tired of fixing knives that people screwed up so that's why if the knife is pimped in anyway it will void the warranty.

The warranty of strider did scare me at first, but I figure use it stock the first year or so...once you know its solid then start to tinker (all I mean by solid, is that there were no accidents during QC or heat treat), I tinker with all my knives regardless of cost or rarity and I purposely bought off a forum member a clone china strider to see if i'd even like the ergos which i really do.

Do not like the lego block striders though, if the handle isn't the round type I wouldn't keep it.

I tried to adjust the pivot of my SMF to tighten it up a bit, even bought a fancy tool to help me do it. Couldnt do it. I realised they had loc-tited the pivot. I didnt mess with it any further and just lived with it. I eventually sold the knife, decided the 3/4 grind wasn't for me. I can well understand why they dont want people messing with the knives. Let's face it, most knife nuts love to fiddle with them. How much of it is really necessary? I think the only time you need to take a knife apart is if you drop it in the mud and it gets grit inside the pivot the area. But a good rinsing of water followed by a hosing down with WD-40 should take care of that. If it aint broke, dont fix it!

Don't know what the problem is. If you don't mess with it, or mod it, you're good. What's disappointing about that?

Mainly just the part of the fun for me is taking the knives apart and putting them back together, but also I like to adjust the blade tension depending on what I'm doing with it.

Meybe you need to become a maker. ^ :)
Oh, I was gifted a SnG GG DE Satin Tanto. Best guy in da World.
