Disappointed with Strider

Meybe you need to become a maker. ^ :)
Oh, I was gifted a SnG GG DE Satin Tanto. Best guy in da World.

Actually working on that. The guy who was teaching me has been busy so I haven't had time on the grinder, plus he's more of a tool-in-general sort of guy and we argue about some aspects of making. Only one I have close to done is a persian that started as a camp knife he made that I did some changes to.

IMO its a simple equation. Strider makes some of my favorite designs. They aren't the finest knives in the world but I really enjoy the product. I enjoy the design, materials, weight, action, steel & their philosophy. The warranty is reasonable to say the least.

Benchmade and Spyderco both state that disassembling their knives will void the warranty. Like Strider, it's just a CYA thing. I would imagine that any adjusting that is needed & does not damage a screw or part of the knife is fine. I can't see where someone would think that if they put a tool to something and damage it that it should be covered by ANY warranty.

On the other hand, their coverage is about as good as it gets. Break the knife prying a door open? It's covered. Most if not all other companies would call that outside the realm of intended use & charge some substantial buckage for a new blade. Busse & Fam. & ESEE are the best, warranty wise, but they don't make folders (Yet!).

Actually Busse did make a folder, though I don't remember the name and I'm sure they're expensive. Also, I'd add Entrek and Emerson to the good warranty list. Emerson sent me new screws after mine stripped out no questions asked, and Entrek offered to make me a new sheath and scales after mine arrived from a trade kind of beat up.

Vol- You get pix up of your first knife then.
I love all my folders, including my SnG, but it took me too long to realize that a Bucklite folder is all I really need to EDC.

Hmmm, you sure Bout that? I know someone took a fixed blade and had a folder made from INFI, but it was not produced by Busse.

Probably thinking about the swamp rat folder.

Bussse made a few folders, released them "secretly" and only a few pics have popped up. I may have a few screen grabs of shots! (Supposedly only 6 or so). Not a lot. One guy had more than one, and sold them on ebay a while ago.

I hope they make a production version. It is supposed to be in the works, but it has been for so long now.

Production version would not be as expensive.

There are quite a few custom made folders out there from cut down fixed blades.

As to the OP. Us the knife, or sell the knife. Either way I would not get too stressed out.

Oh and as for "losing the knife in transit", was it sent via UPS/Fedex/etc. like Josh asks it to be sent, or was it sent via USPS like Strider says NOT to?

It wasn't being sent to Strider, or coming from them, but it made damn sure that I'm never shipping a knife I have in hand across the border ever again.
The only cross-border shipping will be from a reputable store that has a good reputation and ships insured.
From now on, all issues will be resolved by me...I know I can trust me.

This reminds me of my dads policy and the policy I grew up with- "If you don't know how to put it back together, don't take it apart. And if you take it apart anyway and can't put it back together, don't come cryin' to me".

My dad was a hard, old-fashioned guy, but I believe he was right. What he was teaching me was "If you screw something up don't expect someone else to fix it for you". If I took my toys apart (toys he spent hard-earned money on) and if I couldn't put them back together, I was sh*t out of luck. No runnin' and cryin' to mommy and daddy to make it all better.

I also just got an SnG in CPM-154!!! arctic gray!! i love it! I want an SMF in cpm-154 but i think im gonna wait to see what they do with the FULL SIZE SJ75 folder ;). we shall see!

That Arctic Grey is sick looking (congratulations!)...wish I could get a SW Tanto SMF with Arctic Grey Lego G10. Strider's CPM-154 is great stuff, I picked up an SMF with it a little over a month ago and it's already seen more use than most folders do in a year due to a recent move I made and the CPM-154 holds its edge as well or better than any blade steel I've ever used including ZDP-189. I was very surprised by the CPM version of 154...maybe its Strider's HT...I don't know.

To the OP, I'm sure that you'll find the warranty on your Strider to be all you've heard and more...they just don't want to waste their time putting knives back together for those customers that didn't know what they were doing in the first place OR repairing modded knives.
Best of luck!

Oh and I can hardly wait to get my hands on one of those full-size SJ75's...I hope it feels as good in the hand as it looks.
