disappointed with the new Reeve Umnumzaan

LOL, CRK's are girly knives? I know I'm not the sharpest guy around, but maybe I have some unresolved issues. I've liked CRK's stuff for a long time and have never had the impression they were girly. I judge a knife based on how it works for me and the Sebenza has never let me down. As far as it being a girly knife, I think that is a really a funny statement. To each his own CRK's aren't for everyone if the Commander is your cup of tea, then great for you. Getting a Commander in a left hand version is darn close to impossible so I guess I'll just have to live with my "girly" Sebenzas. If someone thought I was carrying a girly knife, I don't think I would be able to sleep!:);):p

That is because you are in touch with your feminine side. A true metrosexual.;)

You have to understand that where John comes from, the girls routinely slap the boys around, so a "girly knife" is what he would call the toughest knife he could find -- much too tough for him to handle. He prefers a lightweight item like an Emerson. :D

De gustibus non est disputandum!

It makes sense people could see them as little girlier...theyre more refined. They're a lot more about 'form' than other knives like Emersons and Striders. I'm not saying they dont function. But theyre not a form follows function kinda knife like more "tactical" companies.

My gf much prefers to use my mini seb over a big old strider, emerson, or benchmade.

I'm glad I was able to settle all this for everyone on the forum. ;)

What do you know? Are you one of those "girly men" in California that Arnold refers to?;)

you know what, guys? I'm not happy, if I can compare, for me the Sebenza is like a Porsche 911, impossible to replace it, unique design, perfect ingeenering, they stop production of 911 for made new car, the customers says, why it's perfect don't change the 911, it's the same for the Sebenza, CRK want stop regular production for new concept ok! but imagine bigger sebenza 10 inches, or classic large with regular blade, the sebenza can be perfectible always! the umnumzaan is very nice, but the frame lock is too small I think, and the frame is not evident to close if I look the differents pics...

Bro---Keep this in mind; there will always be Porsche 911's and Reg. Sebenzas! :)

I don't like Reeve's knives. They might be strong and well made but kind of girly looking.
Striders look like a man's knives. I carry Emerson Commnader, sweet knife it is.

Ahh, I see. You've named several, American knifemakers, however, you've forgotten to tell us which Romanian Knifemaker doesn't make "girly" knives? There's got to be at least one!;)

I REALLY REALLY think it loosk Elishewitzesque...(the shape, the pivot screw)

Plus, why does everyone have to put on a glass breaker?

I handled the Umnumzaan at the Blade show. Its action was noticeably smoother than my Sebbie, and it felt better in the hand. If the production knives are as nice as the prototype I handled, I'm buying one.

Gentlebeings...
Having just returned from the Atlanta Blade Show it was my privilege to have handled one of the first 20 prototypes of this knife. I will tell you this. I would reserve judgment on this knife until you can hold one in your hand.

OMG! You can't be serious! No, no. This is far too reasonable a request! What fun would that be?

In all seriousness, I would suggest that it's a bit disappointing that searching the internet for "Umnumzaan" comes up with this thread on the very first page of results. A thread based not on informed useage and experience gleaned over some reasonable time, or even just a few minutes of actual useage, but on the OP's expectations and requirements for the new design not being met.

The ergonomics and balance of this knife are amazing. The revised pivot design is unbelievable and completely unique and built to provide a lifetime of smooth performance.

I was amazed at this knife and after holding one and inspecting the prototype I for one cannot wait to get my hands on one as soon as they go into production. It will be my EDC for sure.

This knife has incorporated perfectly everything that you have come to love about the sebenza and CRK quality but also it has made dramatic improvements in pivot, frame lock, and blade design which CRK is also known for....it is most exciting..

Personally, I'm excited that CRK is offering a new folder, and I'm going to pre-order one and see how I like it. If I don't, I can always sell it. But even if I keep it, there's no way I'm getting rid of my Large Regular Sebenza. That's for sure.

you owe it to yourself to try out some darkops knives. Ultimate man knives.

LOL Capt. Carl!

If Reeve's knives are girly looking, well call me a girl. See if I care. Oh- and I also like William Henry fine knives. Guess they're kind of girly too? Good luck with your dark-ops and mantis knives.

Kind regards,

Jos

Make that the expectations of quite a few knife users from a maker like Chris Reeve not being met.

You can't blame people not liking the design on the OP's opinion.

Nor can you say the design is just as likeable to people as the Sebenza is, based on users who have actually held the knife.

I would buy a Sebenza, based on photos and reviews. I would not buy one of these knives, however positive the reviews are. I don't like the way I look, I don't think I'm alone, and I don't think it's fair to dismiss a common sentiment by saying "oh, well they just haven't held the knife."

I'm with JS on this one. The Sebenza has always been about form following function. My Sebenza is plain and dull. It's ugly or beautiful, depending on whether you see and feel the interplay of form and function or whether you see the form in isolation.

If this new knife is stronger than the Sebbie, if it cuts better, if it holds more securely in the hand, if it opens more smoothly... Holy Cow!

Nah, Reeve's knives aren't girly. Neither are William Henry. (If the guy who made that girly comment can be vague on how they're girly, I can be just as vague about how they're not.) :) This new knife looks awfully familiar, though.
