Any pics or explanation of how to remove the long female screw from a ZT 0470 pocket clip/body screw..would be appreciated.

Searched one Youtube disassembly, took almost everything down..except that screw..

Not sure if it is pressed in..?..figured I'd ask before I take the mallet to it.

help

Thanks in advance

Like you were advised in your thread on this subject, please send it in to ZT. They will take care of it.

Yea, thanks craytab craytab . That previous advise given was addressing a different question.

I'm looking to learn as well as install a custom pocket clip, already purchased. I can send the knife in, they will remove/replace the stripped screw and it will be returned to me as factory w/ the long female screw in place, as it is now..

I suppose I could wait the month +/- for the knife to be returned to me and pose the question then..hoping there won't be another lock-tite or other issue, postal hang-ups ect.

I have no real issue sending the knife in..However, the knife is great, centered and solid..and plan to keep/carry. Only real issue being one screw I'm not sure how to remove..

Not too many things I hold dear besides my family and my monies..my time happens to be one of them. So, here I'm am trying to save some of that..as well as learn about a specific knife I've spent time and money researching/purchasing, then deciding I like and want to carry..Typically doesn't work that that in my world..Usually one thing or another keeps me from researching, purchasing and or deciding to pocket the knife..Prehaps not understood by non enthusiasts..

but, I'm not on Twitter or face book..so please forgive me for posing a question on a knife forum in an established thread addressing a topic that I have recently found pertaining to a question I have on recent purchase that has some unusual construction.

I've disassembled/reassembled many things, knives included..Done due diligence and researched..Figures I'd ask as a paying member on a board I've been w/ for years and asked very little of in my time here..

So again, forgive me if this new question has caused you inconvenience..to have to stop what you were doing and taking your time to respond to my inquiry..

Understand completely..here I am waisting my time explaining the reason for the inquiry..So, I do understand your frustration.

Just looking for some info, brother..

I appreciate you

This being a disassembly picture thread, maybe you could post a picture of your problem?

From what I can see online, it looks like the long screw backs out into a free spinning nut (or whatever it's called) on the other side of the back spacer. Without having it in hand, is there a way to stop that part from spinning freely? Hold it with some pliers or something? Maybe make a video showing the exact problem?

Last, from your other thread it sounds like you will send it to zt anyway. Maybe ask them to not install the clip? Another thought is to ask zt how to remove the pocket clip.

Without more details (pics or video) and without having it in hand, that would be my advice.

Also, I think you want to remove the long MALE screw that is stuck spinning freely in the female nut.

I wanted to kick myself for not taking pics when disassembled. Beautiful thing is, this knife is only held together w/ the pivot and one body screw that serves as one of the clip screws. It's brilliant and very study. My pivot came apart very easily..did not suffer from over application of thread lock.

However, the clip screw, serving as only that..short, through clip, in Ti is frozen and that's the screw that stripped. The second clip screw, which also serves as body screw is made of a long female that extends through the to opposite scale, and a short male from the opposite side. The male screw come out, no problem, knife breaks down, no problem..but left w/ the long female screw on the lock bar slab that just free spins, no threads..I'm assuming it must be pressed, just wanted to confirm before I start to apply pressure..Ti slabs + anal, knife junkie + previous experiments.. had me wanting to inquire.

I have hardware coming from ZT, I'm assuming. And not sure exactly what will be coming. Again, unusual construction on this one...it is not just simply two short typical clip screws..I've thought of calling ZT to ask..figured If I could find out myself I could save them from a phone call..and new to the brand wasn't sure what might or might not be warranty voiding.

IF I can sort this out, there will be no need to send the knife in..I do have the stripped head of the other screw to contend w/..and will send it in if I can't remove and stay determined to swap clips..

Whole thing started w/ me wanting to change the pocket clip..I love the knife enough to live w/ the stock clip if it's a complete hassle w/ the construction as is.. and will sell/trade custom clip..only $45, but..more money than I'd like to just toss in a parts box..or buy another knife compatible.

I'll give ZT a call, see if I can get someone on the phone familiar w/ the construction of this particular. Disassemble, take pics and prehaps a vid..

Thanks

The male screw isn't stuck/free spinning. It's the long female that free spins in the lock bar slab even after disassembly.

I guess I'm still not understanding the exact problem, although I did watch a video where I guy couldn't get the clip off like you describe. Pics and/or a video would really help.

And the problem is you can't get the clip off, right? Looks to me like the clip is swappable to the other side. You should be able to take the clip off then. I'd call ZT and get this sorted.

Thanks for digging, craytab craytab ..sincerely.

Yes, that is the video to which I was referring..just short of what I was looking for..

As you saw in vid, free spinning body/clip screw..what stays in place after disassembly, not being able to back out/no apparent threads. Assuming must be pressed..wouldn't come out w/ reasonable force.

I intend to call ZT today..I'm east coast, so..they are just getting the lights on and the coffee machine running at the moment, I'd image..I'll let the cobwebs clear before I start asking CS to get a tech/engineer on the line..

Another note. I saw a 470 recently listed on the exchange, w/ the pocket clip removed, and to the side.. no new clip. I found that curious.

Will follow up here, for sure.

Thanks again for searching for me..sincerely.

No worries. Do let us know what they say. As I said, it looks like the clip is reversible. That would be a problem if not possible.

Ok.
Craytab, and any who might have interest on this particular.

Zero Tolerance: 0470

I've confirmed though ZT CS, Warranty/Repair that the female clip/body screw is in fact one piece and is pressed in. And was told it should be able to be knocked/tapped out.

Which opens a few more questions on whether my milled Ti custom clip would be able to work w/ this construction. Would appear that the female screw/cylinder assembly would have to pass through hole in pocket clip..Can the screw actually be re used after "pressing" out, or..would that make the part unusable..questions the young man on the phone couldn't answer off hand.

I'm not willing to attempt at the moment, maybe after the hardware lands, I'll revisit.

I have to add that ZT CS and Warranty dept were excellent. My first time calling and more than happy/impressed w/ service and attention. I was also told warranty would be intact, no matter...I could send them a box of parts and, no problem..so

Thanks again, craytab craytab

That is very strange. I wonder why they did that? I say another video of a guy with an anodized 470. He took off the clip and it looked like it was a small screw. I'm sure you can find it easily. Take a look.

Thats the video that convinced me to buy. I like that reviewer..Kid has me on the 470, 2 640's and a FireTac..lol.

I can only assume that the hardware was changed out by the person/outfit that did the customization. But yes..that was the last video I had watched and just assumed that was standard hardware I was looking at..Kid might not even had known..

I may contact the outfit that did the service..have some work done on it..really am happy w/ it, plan on keeping, so..its only money, right.?.

Yup. Only money. If you are going to keep it might as well customize. Let them handle the odd screw issue.
