On the Shiro with the roller (? or needle?) bearings, are they cylinders with a constant radius or are the cones with a tapering radius?

If a cylinder then that is a bad design unless I'm missing something. Because the distance the inner end travels in a revolution is shorter than the distance the outer end travels. And if they are a cylinder that means the outer end will have to slide over the extra distance instead of rolling all the way and sliding is going to introduce more friction than rolling. They would need to be a cone with the outer end a bigger diameter than the inner end so it rolls the entire way. Maybe they are and I just can't see the taper?

Do the holes in the washers on the CRK seem to help reduce friction? Seems like they could go either way. Anyone ever try to fill the holes with grease and notice a difference or have an opinion?

I wish we could get a thread like this 'stickied' - maybe in the maintenance/tinkering forum. Would be really cool to have a database with a bunch of different models. Not only is it interesting to see the different designs, but it could be helpful if you take apart a knife and need help getting it back together.

The purpose of the holes in the phosphor bronze washers is to hold CRK's fluorinated grease and act as a wiper to keep the tang surface free of debris.

The more the merrier, I encourage you to post the picture of yours too. It could show a different perspective, more parts, clearer image, etc that might be beneficial.

Fortunately mine came perfect from a forum member here.

Here's a Benchmade 810 Contego
