discrete EDC

Hello

I am looking for a folding knife with a blade 3-4 inches that would be discrete as an EDC in the pocket of my dress slacks.
A really deep-carry clip might help or a wire clip. At first i was looking for something tan in color but that is not necessary. It has to be rather straight so as to not be obtrusive (spyderco curved blades for example would not work)

Any suggestions?

When somebody says "dress slacks" my mind immediately goes to William Henry. What's your budget?

ZT 0450, and put a deep carry clip on it (eg. from a ZT 0560). It has just over a 3" blade, and the entire knife is very slim.

Or maybe a Benchmade 940, and put one of Benchmade's deep carry clips on it.

(I don't have a pic of a 940 w/ deep carry clip handy, but like the 0450, it has a very slim profile. Even with the standard clip, it does still keep a pretty low profile.)

The ZT 0770 is also pretty discrete. It's a bit wider than the 0450, but it is still pretty unobtrusive in pocket. You can also put the larger of that style of deep carry clip (eg. like from the 0566) on the 0770, which completely buries it in your pocket.

What flarp^ said.. If you can afford a Benchmade 940 get one. I can't wear it too often in denim jeans because it's so slim and lightweight I forget it's there and almost get upset until I feel for it. My 940 has a deep carry clip too.

Flarp is dead on!
I have couple of 940s and a 450....annoed blue from usamadeblade.....and both fit your needs perfectly.
Absolutely awesome knives!!

Flarp nailed it! Nice pics and examples Flarp!

Another vote for William Henry knives. Very thin, light, and classy. If you want to be discreet, deep pocket carry (clipless) is the way to go, IMO.

Well you have some excellent candidates there but these two of my knives came to mind.

The first knife, a Cold Steel Hold Out III doesn’t carry low so a new clip may be in order but the nice thing about it is it is so thin and light yet is a cut the door off a car kind of tool. Very tough. The designer says he carries his clipped inside his shirt pocket.

The second knife, a Boker. It is called : BOKER PLUS Damascus Gent 2 Pocket Knife, Brown.(the Gent 1 is a bit larger). It is indeed a low carry AND the reason I mention it is the black clip would all but disappear against black dress pants. The black ebony wood is very masculine and elegant and makes for a light knife. It does have steel liners in spite of what some of the product reviews say. I fell in lust with this knife when I first saw it . More delicate but is still well made and useful in an office environment. It has a laminated “damascus” looking blade yet it is inexpensive. Quite attractive in my opinion.

PS: the hold out looks like it is a black coated blade but it is just bare ground finish CTS-XHP

Maybe a bit small (almost 3") but a CRK Mnandi is great for dress clothes. It is an elegant, capable knife. The clip makes it look like a pen in the shirt or pant pocket.

I totally agree with flarp's recommendation of a 940, and add that the 943 is worth looking at if you're not totally sold on the 940's blade shape. (Actually, even if you are.) I'm not sure about the ZTs—the pockets of most dress slacks open vertically, so the considerable width (or whatever we're calling that axis) might pull it in a way that skews more than desired.

But I really have to ask about this:

What knife was so good that it was worth carrying despite such a terrible pocket clip? :D (I hope it wasn't that ZT.)

A Benchmade 707 Sequel might be the right choice for you.

I would also take a hard look at the Spyderco Chaparral. It is very, very thin.

First thing that came to my mind was 940 with deep carry clip, but I see it's been mentioned several times. Now if they'd just offer the deep carry clip in the black oxide finish...

Southern Grind Spider Monkey with its shorty clip:

+1 on the William Henry. Their EDC line is awesome, and not crazy expensive like most of their customs

For full sized folders the norm for me is a benchmade 5812 with deep clip, or my 530 with deep clip as it disappears in the pocket.

Harder to find, but the Volt 3600 (mine was purchased as a beater already, a blem model I think) is superb as it has a small deep carry clip plus it's thin and light weight.

Check out the Benchmade 530/531. Very slim in pocket. Replace the stock phallic clip with a Benchmade Deep Carry.

940 works well in my office environment, although it's the Caly 3.5 that spends the most time in my pocket, but doesn't meet your needs.
