discussing Strider?

Because when you buy the "product", you support the "person".

Exactly !
I think anyone planing to buy needs to see this thread started by the owner of this site. It may matter to some, and not so much to others.
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/453852-Mick-Strider-has-some-explaining-to-do

I didn't start the thread, so don't be upset with me for putting up the owners link. I don't care if one buys one or not, but do think they need to read this before deciding.

OP, there ya go^^. Anytime a Strider thread is started talking about the knives, someone shows up to talk about Mick. It usually devolves from there.

Well as with any higher end product there will be people who will be less than positive about them for various reasons.

Strider makes a great product and they have been for quite some time now and that's not even getting into the customs.

People can keep dragging up all that zombie thread BS all they want and or get all bent out of shape etc if they want to, but in the end it won't change anything, Strider isn't going anywhere.

So if people want something to get all sideways about about there are plenty of much more important things in the world today that need attention than some knife...... ;)

Please don't take the thread sideways just because of one post with the link.
I am not trying to offend anyone. If I was I would have did more than put up a link.
Carry one, but please try to keep the drama out of the thread.

edit- Sorry if I offended anyone by putting up a link to a thread made by the owner here.

Personally I could care less what he did or didn't do, and yeah I am a Veteran..... USMC 82-86....

The knives are well made and that is the bottom line. :)

Because when you buy the "product", you support the "person". So, to some people, personalities matter too. But no worries, us Central Floridians need to stick together anyway.

Precisely. Would it be nice to just talk about the knives? The maker is part of the knives. When the maker's character is brought up is the thread devolving? No. People are just stating their opinion. It's the reality of the subject. I'm sure wherever the Strider forum is, his character is never brought up, and everything about Strider is candy and unicorns.

Like it or not, that is not going to happen here, and everybody knows it. Its not going to happen for Strider or for anybody else. That's the whole point.

Strider makes great knives. They are top materials and designs, tough as nails, and have a great warranty.

I'm glad you get enjoyment from their products, and I certainly have no problem at all with people that do support them. Not in the least.
I just hope people don't have a problem with people like me that don't support them.:)
Thanks.

Exactly, if a person is really into knives they should be able to appreciate the quality and design if they have one in hand. :)

They are expensive so they aren't for everyone though.

Sold off all of mine, had 5 SmF's......

Will get another SmF CC SW someday, I really miss that one.....

Like 'em or hate 'em, there is something very consistent about them when shopping for a new SnG - Sold Out!

I have owned a few.

Got an RC about 7 years ago....traded it for a Busse FFBM. Never really liked the RC, never used the Busse....made some money on that overall.

HAD an SLCC that I had DLC'd and put Grenade Grips purchased from Monkey Edge...that knife I liked just fine, but met a wounded veteran at Blade this year and gave it to him....just seemed like the right thing to do. Marissa over at Strider heard the story and gave the Vet's wife a new knife so she would have something as well.

I can't speak so much to Duane, but Mick is a good guy. I'll leave his history out of it....and I am a veteran as well. He has been unfailingly polite, warm and funny EVERY time I have seen him.

Josh Lee is a person who I have known for almost 20 years, and his loyalty, honesty and hard work are a credit to the knife community....I have asked Josh for numerous favors over time, and he has yet to say no, or "I'm too busy" or the rest of that.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I've owned several Striders and have been very pleased with their products. I have also had several sorresponces with the company and have come away pleased every time. Never spoken down to like you tend to get from dealing with Hinderer. I've never encountered a more "in your face, take it or leave it, you're doing it wrong" attitude than they have. So, OP, don't be mislead into thinking that Strider is all problems and the others are solid gold. they all have their quirks. If you like their knives, and I'll bet you will, then buy them and don't overthink it.

The owner, the owner, the owner. We get it. Thanks. Your inputs been noted.

I don't have a strider yet, but as soon as I can find one in the configuration I want I'll jump on it. I've really been pleased with the ergos of the SMFs Ive handled. For those that own a Lego and DGG, can you tell any difference in lock strength? It seems like the DGG has a slimmer lock face. Do you perceive it as a compromise?

The lockbar cut out is the same thickness. The handle is radiused. The center is nearly the same width as the Lego. It's not a strength compromise per Mick, just an ergonomic one.

I understand the Strider forum is closed here and read the announcement post about why. Just curious is discussing their knives looked down now anywhere on BF? I see them often getting sold/traded but not seeing discussion pictures etc.

Where can I read tbe announcement post ?

I was very wary of buying one for a long time, even though I did like that two piece handle a lot. Finally I did go ahead and buy an SMF, because I love big folders and I figured I could sell it if it didn't work for me. Plus, I had read they had changed the lock up and improved fit and finish. Maybe I did cheat because I called and made sure I was getting one with a centered blade, as well as the new style lock face. All I can say is the knife is flawless and I will never sell it. It came shaving sharp, very even grinds, super solid lock up and it's smoothed out a lot over time. Fit and finish is not the same level as my Sebenzas but it's more than good enough to suit me and I'm picky over flaws.
