discussing Strider?

in many different capacities, and their stories/backgrounds never passed the sniff test.
YMMV

Over the years a lot of people's stories don't really pass the sniff test, that's why we used to call them sea stories ..... ;)

Kinda like fish stories and hunting stories...... They always get better each time they are told....

Principles, not personalities.

I used to bash on the owners. I changed my mind about a week ago. I can try to empathize with Mick. I have a past as well. Most of you know it. If everyone constantly dragged my s#it BTTT every time my knives are mentioned, I'd want to leave the forum too. I'm extremely satisfied with my SMF and SJ75. I'm also pleasantly looking forward to meeting the men behind the knives at the Plaza show in a few months.

There's a huge difference between having a past and inventing a phony heroic super operator past to replace the real one, then building a knife business around the lie.

Like 'em or hate 'em, there is something very consistent about them when shopping for a new SnG - Sold Out!

There are obviously many who agree with you and support the Strider company in spite of their dishonorable ways. I would go so far as to say one is born every minute.

That's rather judgemental...
How about you just don't buy one yourself? :)

See, I just did the same thing this minute, with many different brands. As I type this, I am not buying hundreds, nay, thousands of knives.
You can do it too...I believe in you! ;)

Too late! I ended up with a couple of Striders several years ago when I was doing a lot of buying, selling and trading so as to try out lots of different designs. That was before I knew about the stolen valor issues. I flipped them back into the pool due to the fact I just didn't like them. Too bulky, uncomfortable and horribly expensive for what they were. The only good thing about them was that there were lots of aficionados itching to take them off my hands so I got my money back out of them.

I found I no longer needed to buy more knives after I bought my small Sebenza (and it's about time we bring CRK into this discussion, don't you think?)

There will always be those willing to look past the character, or lack there of, of others if they have something people desire, be that money, fame, or in this instance, knives.

It is what it is, if you like their knives enough to look past it, then that's your choice and nobody is telling you that you're wrong for doing so, but don't downplay it like all Mick and Duane did was lie about their age on match.com or belittle those that hold people to a higher standard.

Sure, why not? :D
Personally, there is no knife that gets me not wanting more.
My Umnumzaan is nice, but when the Tuff came out, I totally needed that one too.
When the blue G-10 handle version of the Spyderco Lava came out, I knew I could not bear to go on without one. ;)

Then I had to get an Emerson Super CQC-8...mainly because it had super right in the name...

I'm not downplaying it.
They sure were liars...but those liars designed a really neat knife. :)

I like the one and only Strider I own, and while I'm neither a rabid fan, nor am I a sanctimonious holier-than-thou type who revels in joining the well documented hordes of angry dudes in the grievance industry who allege, with and without proof, the misdeeds and peccadillos of Mick Strider, who btw, still has his many supporters, in and out of the military. Judgement is not mine sayeth His Eminence; that said, Strider has treated me just fine by not just once, but twice taking back a PT I purchased at the Navy Exchange for much less than the MSRP, and finally deciding that a completely new one, and not a repair, was in order to make me whole...they even sent me a $15.00 check to cover my postage cost of returns. While I won't be buying any Striders any time soon, since I find the cost of such a knife well over the top, my purchase was an impulse buy at a great price. Oh, did I mention the knife is well worth the MSRP if you so inclined to spend that kind of money...just not to me.;)

They're a lightning rod company, mainly because of their history from what I read.

As I buyer I try not to get too involved in a individual's personal affair's when compared to their product. I focus more on the product, not the person.
Of course, I was never in the military so the entire "stolen valor" controversy isn't as big of a issue to me as many others. Even though they like to bill the company as operator designs for operators that is operated by operators. It is something I view as a marketing gimmick. Yeah it gets me looking at their product, but it doesn't gets me to buy their product

That said, I like the look of their blades, but I really dislike the G10/Titanium scales. That alone is a reason for me not to get a product. It was enough for me to get a DOC though.
I've used a strider. Nice blades, but they are WAY overpriced for what I would be paying for one

I understand the Strider forum is closed here and read the announcement post about why. Just curious is discussing their knives looked down now anywhere on BF? I see them often getting sold/traded but not seeing discussion pictures etc.

So...

As you have seen these threads usually don't stay civil and usually de-evolve quick with moderators having to weigh-in.

What some of you may not know is SKI, Dwyer, and Strider are now operating as relatively separate entities. The exact details have not been fully, publicly released. Regardless, if you are a fan of wonderfully designed and exceptionally made knives, I highly recommend taking a look at Mick Strider's new offerings. All have been flawless. When the "performance" series SnG models hit, I'll be all over one.

I freakin can't stand Tom Cruise. But I liked Collateral. Michael Mann is the man

I like them. Some people don't. Like any other knife, each person must decide for themselves whether they are good knives or not.

I don't know about you, but I don't know anyone who can walk on water... ;)

Posting in every single Strider thread on why you don't like Mick may qualify you as a "hater" and not just having a different opinion.

When some folks can't help but slam, a few of us bring the balance back. It's okay. No real harm done.

Bottom Line...don't like'em don't buy the knives...they sell everything they make.
