fwiw- Over the years, I have been to folder insanity and back. :D My folder rotation has a Strider SnG in it because it a PERFECT folder.
That's all I need to know.

Awesome Steve, we were in at the same time, although I was on the other side of the world in 83.... :D

The neighbor I enlisted with was over there on your side. Cpl Dan Strand, CH46 crew chief. He died in my arms later on that year in a motorcycle accident @ Camp Lejeune. 1983 was a crappy year for me. These pics are from Operation Ahuas Tara II. Ended up putting a lot of high ranking people in the hot seat.

OK Esav, back to the subject - Wish I had my SnG back in the day although I got along fine with a 110 & trusty KBAR.

And I still rock the BCDs!

I lost a few friends I went to BC with also so I feel your pain.

Was over in the Tropics until 84 then ended up in Camp Lejeune for the last 2 years or so...

Same knives here, KBAR and Buck 110.... :)

Wish I had an SmF back then...

I can't help but be amused that a thread about a company that was started by charlatans ends up with multiple actual badasses posting up some pictures of their days in the service. Probably elevates this to the best Strider thread ever, if you ask me.

And people like us are brothers forever.

My SnG is in, and I'm very pleased with it. Very ergonomic. The lockup is rock solid with no play. Excellent stonewash. Not a fan of the fat clip nor the too long screws for the LBS and clip that protrude through the frame, but for what I paid it doesn't bother me. I still don't know if I could pay full retail for one. It's a cool knife, and I'm just gonna enjoy it.

I love it! Thanks for your actual reality based service, guys.

I've owned four Striders (MV, AR, SMF, and PT), all of which I purchased long before Burger's and Dwyer's pasts were revealed. The quality of all of the knives was top notch--materials, fit, and finish were excellent. And there can be no doubt that Strider makes some robust knives. My only complaints were with ergonomics and the blade-to-handle ratios in the folders. Striders have never felt particularly comfortable in my hands (though the second generation of ARs were much more ergonomic than the straight-sided first generation model that I had), so I would recommend that you try to handle any Strider that you're considering prior to purchase. As for blade-to-handle ratio, that's just a personal pet peeve of mine and certainly not unique to Striders. It's just something else to consider if you're thinking about buying one of their folders.

I'm a huge fan. I have a very extensive collection of both production and custom knives, yet a Strider (usually a DGG SMF of some sort) always seems to make it's way into my EDC gear. A PT lives on my keychain as well. Over the last nine years I've owned 30+, and a few had some slight issues. But I've always been able to tune them into the point where I was happy. Also the newer ones (the last couple years) have been pretty much spot on, at least in my experience. I really do find there designs extremely useful, and I've never had one even come close to failing. Your experience may vary from mine, but if you're at the point where you are willing to spend $400 for a knife you're truly going to use. I think you'd have to at least give one a shot.

At one time I owned 4 Striders, I sold/traded them all by 2004, two went oddly enough to a fellow named Darryl Bolke. Even prior to the fallout, several conversations with reps of their company and forum traffic didn't quite add up. I've been a Military member since 1991 Marine Corps 91-05, USAF 05-Pres) in many different capacities, and their stories/backgrounds never passed the sniff test. They were quality blades but there is equal or better quality blades out now (cheaper too), and I don't have to support complete posers and frauds. I can say that I was one of their biggest supporters around 2001, but now regret ever buying into their bullshit. It turned me away from blades until this year when I eased (sic) back into it, vetting resumes along the way!

YMMV
