I agreed to buy a pistol barrel from member cpio. I immediately sent off a money order in the agreed amount.
Several days later he sent me an e-mail and said he could not cash the M.O. as I had filled it out wrong and no bank would cash it. He let it slip that he had altered the MO (changed the address from mine to his!!) and they still wouldn’t cash it.
I replied and said that the M.O. was filled out correctly – I have bought extensively off Gunbroker and Auction Arms and NEVER had an issue. I also included a link to the issuing institutions website, where they showed step by step how to fill out a M.O. (and inserted same in text) PROVING that I had sent a legitimate and properly filled out money order. I explained that he had ALTERED the money order ( I assume he actually altered it before he went to the first financial institution) and that THAT was why Walmart, two banks and check cashing company had refused it – it had BEEN TAMPERED WITH!
He immediately stopped communicating!
He earlier promised to mail the MO back… as that would speed up the claim process I now have to go through to have my money reimbursed. He has NOT returned the M.O. The fee to file a claim is $15 so now I am out money AND will have a two month wait on the refund… as he did not keep his word on returning the MO!!
So, in short – he tampered with a legal, legitimate M.O., tried to blame me that it couldn’t be cashed…..then when shown the truth, stopped communicating and completely refused to make any of it good.

I bought from him once everything went very smooth. Was with PP though. Did he ask for MO or was that the only way you could pay? He has alot of sales under his belt, all +'s.

I think we all need more info on this. Time frames. Seller to respond, etc.
There are always two sides to a story. Let's get some more facts.

good luck to all and a resolution..
I do hope everything is ok with cpio---

Good luck too all.

I have followed a lot of Cpio's sales threads. It seems like he always has a lot of trouble getting his stuff sold. Probably because he fails to realize that he overprices most of the crap he sells and is very stingy on updating his sales threads with price drops.

Regardless he does have a well established reputation here and frankly I wouldn't take anyone with 9 posts since 2007 very seriously.

What exactly does this mean?

I have dealt with cpio on 3 occasions and they all went smoothly. More and clearer info needed here.

I will say I have encountered a situation where six local institutions would not cash a money order someone had sent me. He pulled your same arguement that "i pay with them all the time with no problem you must be doing something wrong" well fact of the matter is no one would cash it and it was useless to me.

I sent him his m.o. Back and have never accepted one since

Never had an issue with a Usps MO.
What kind of MO was used?
Most likely something wrong with it. Need to hear from the seller.

He is an experienced seller, does not have to rush to sell just because buyers want better deals, and is willing to wait for the buyer who really wants what he's offering.

Overprices, crap, and stingy are not true business terms, they sound more like sour grapes.

Always use a M.O. from the post office. I have filled one out wrong took it to the clerk and they cashed it for me and I bought another on the spot.

Its call free trade. Him not lowering his prices fast enough for you are not a mark of a bad business man. Actually it means he knows what he's doing.

That is what I always say of members with less than 1,000 posts!!!:D:D:p:D

Have to remember your dealing with one of the most self entitled ignorant generations here. Everyone thinks there owed everything and should do nothing to gain it. Pretty pathetic imho

I had no idea that there were even Money Orders other than Postal Money Orders.
Banks usually issue Certified Checks, not Money Orders.

+1
I will be more than happy to pay for a membership name change..."Sour Grapes", would be a very appropriate name for this member!

As for this thread: It would be prudent to wait for cpio, to post his side of this transaction, & get more facts.

FACT:
cpio has been a BladeForum member for 20 years, & up to this transaction, had 87 +++ transactions on the books, with a perfect 100% Feedback rating.

Postal money orders cash on the spot. Others including banks can wait for two or more weeks to clear. Ask me how I know.

Here's the sale thread that the OP is referring to. It was for a pistol barrel, so he couldn't use Paypal due to their firearms policy. Anyhow, I agree with everyone else that cpio needs to reply to this thread. It's very one sided at the moment.
