Dishonest seller on this site! Avoid like the plague!!!

Just bring it to court
I always use money orders since tampering or scamming someone who sent could result in a federal offense which is big boy time. Yay postal money orders

Cpio was online yesterday at almost 2am Pacific time. I sent him a PM with a link to this thread. If he ignores it, then it will be time to take some action.

I agreed to buy a pistol barrel from member cpio. I immediately sent off a money order in the agreed amount.
Several days later he sent me an e-mail and said he could not cash the M.O. as I had filled it out wrong and no bank would cash it. He let it slip that he had altered the MO (changed the address from mine to his!!) and they still wouldn’t cash it.
I replied and said that the M.O. was filled out correctly – I have bought extensively off Gunbroker and Auction Arms and NEVER had an issue. I also included a link to the issuing institutions website, where they showed step by step how to fill out a M.O. (and inserted same in text) PROVING that I had sent a legitimate and properly filled out money order. I explained that he had ALTERED the money order ( I assume he actually altered it before he went to the first financial institution) and that THAT was why Walmart, two banks and check cashing company had refused it – it had BEEN TAMPERED WITH!
He immediately stopped communicating!
He earlier promised to mail the MO back… as that would speed up the claim process I now have to go through to have my money reimbursed. He has NOT returned the M.O. The fee to file a claim is $15 so now I am out money AND will have a two month wait on the refund… as he did not keep his word on returning the MO!!
So, in short – he tampered with a legal, legitimate M.O., tried to blame me that it couldn’t be cashed…..then when shown the truth, stopped communicating and completely refused to make any of it good.

Let me see if I can summarize this...

1- You sent cpio a Money Order in which you put your address where his should have gone.
2- He could not cash it because of this, so he crossed out your mistake and wrote his address.
3- He still could not get it cashed, so it was to be mailed back to you.
4- You started this thread as you haven't received the Money Order yet.

This is just speculation on my part, cpio may have mailed the MO order back but it got lost in the mail. If it was sent in 1st class mail in a standard letter envelope, it's not hard to picture this happening. He may have stopped communicating with you if your e-mails were aggressive and/or threatening.

Yes, cpio needs to come on here and tell his side of the story, but if my speculation up above is correct, he has done nothing wrong. He couldn't get paid because you initially didn't fill out the Money Order correctly. If he mailed it back and it got lost, then that is not his problem.

He was online this afternoon so he's at least been on a few times since I sent him a private message Tuesday night.

RevDevil, rycen, Esav Benyamin: An official response has been sent via private message along with proof that I have not cashed or deposited the money order. With all due respect I would appreciate it if the trash talking and the death sentence is delayed by all forum critters until such time as I get this ironed out with the buyer and the moderators.

You are calling members here "critters"?

It is NOT us being complained about. None of us critters are alleged to have altered a Money order. It has already been reported that you did not cash the money order, that is because you are alleged to have altered it to the point no one would cash the thing.

Rather than let this fester for days, knowing that it is your reputation being questioned maybe you should have spoken up sooner. Sometimes silence is not golden.

Us Forum "critters" are the ones that sit in amazement that you need help to straighten this out!!! Just send the Money order, in it's now altered form back to the buyer, it is BS that you are sitting there with the money and the product.

Hmm. CPIO, I am not saying you are wrong here, but since you took the time to post - why would you not have used those lines to quickly lend a few facts?
This does not seem to be a diificult issue to resolve................either he sent you a MO not filled out right and it could not be cashed; and/or you altered it in an attempt to fix it and now it can't be cashed. Either way the simple solution would be just to send it back to the buyer. Have you done that?
It's your rep here that was called out - I would think you would be a bit more open about clearing it up. People should understand that many of us do not live on the computer everyday and sometimes are away for days........but, now you are here. Anyway, would be nice to have the buyer come back or CPIO to give everyone some details. oh, well...........the drama continues.

Let's all calm down here - I've heard the term "forum critters" used before, and it's not necessarily meant in a derogatory fashion.

And some folks are just thin skinned.

There sure is a lot worse than being called "critters" on here...

So, the solution seems to me that the deal be undone as quickly as possible, and call it a wash.
Cpio, return the money order, send via registered mail to verify it arrives at its location.
Occam, not sure what happened, but the money order was apparently uncashable.
I've paid all kinds of bills with all manner of money order and received them as well & have not run into any cashing difficulties. But, when things start getting crossed out and modified there is usually always an automatic voiding of validity.

I am neither thin skinned or a critter.

And I certainly am not excited.

You two can remain "critters", I find it offensive.

Update!!! Three weeks and not a peep from the seller! No e-mail, no return of altered MO....

For those that don't know -
THE PURCHASERS name goes on the M.O. - NOT the payee! This is from Moneygram themselves:

How do I fill out a MoneyGram Money Order?

MoneyGram Money Orders should be completely filled out immediately after purchase.

On the PAY TO THE ORDER OF line, write the name of the person or business you are making the payment to
On the PURCHASER SIGN HERE line, sign your first and last name
On the ADDRESS line, write your complete street address including city, state, and zip code

This information is easy to find - just Google! If he would have done that, rather than jump the gun and alter the MO, things probably would have went ok. He made a mistake and then TOTALLY backed away from making it right!

I filed a claim with Moneygram on 9-30-2014 and, assuming the MO wasn't cashed, will get re-reimbursed all but the $15 processing fee in two months or soo. The return would go much faster if I had the original MO back (like CPIO promised). Really, I am done with this....but I am out time & money! In this same amount of time, I have made two incredibly smooth purchases on Gunbroker and one more on Auction Arms. My ratings are still %100!

Update:
SO I have some pictures of the money order, and I will be editing out names and posting pictures shortly so we can see what has happened. The instructions on how to fill a money order out have pretty much stayed the same over the last 20 or so years. Some companies that provide the MO have limited space in which you can write very lengthy addresses and names and can be challenging. I need more time to look things over, but this is what seems like the most reasonable thing to do:

1. If Occam messed up the money order, then he needs to eat the cost of the processing fee.
2. If cpio messed up the money order and modified it, then he needs to reimburse the cost of the processing fee.
3. If OR wants the item, Cpio has stated that he will discount $20 off the original price (I take it to mean he will absorb the fee) if a new MO is purchased and sent.

That is what we are looking at as of right now. As you can see, the MO was edited. The original address was crossed out and a different address was placed on it jut above. IN any case, this needs to be resolved via one of the 3 options listed.
