DMT DIA-Sharp ?

Dia-sharp Extra Coarse 6X2

Dia-sharp Coarse 6X2

Dia-sharp Extra Fine 6X2

I have a larger one, but I don't like how far the edges are from each other...

I found Dia-Sharp far more effective than DMT, far more diamonds cutting, more cutting surface (no holes), and they are a heavier base as well... They seem to last longer too.

The above set up, using strokes nearly parallel to the edge, have made the finest edges I have ever put on anything, especially if you don't buy into mirror edges...

Even the Dia-Sharp Extra-Fine is quite aggressive enough to plane-out mildly out of flat surfaces into a single finish...: It is quite surprising, when other diamond hones, like DMT "Fine", hardly have an effect in comparison (but that was 20 years ago, and have never tried DMT since)...

200х83х10 мм is roughly 8x3 inches.

They're not getting it. I just posted the ones I have. The ones I have are not the only size offered. There are several sizes. And if someone doesn't want to do some fairly easy conversions and save 50% or more, so be it. No skin off my back.

I have helped dozens of people here over the years, literally given stuff away. Next time you put an order in, get me one, I will pay you back. I am very leery of ordering from Russia, but would love to try one of these plates out.
As for "getting it" , I fear ordering from Russia, do you "get it?"

Dia sharp is DMT...

Russ

Dia-sharp is the continuous surface. Duo-sharp is the interrupted surface. Both are DMT.

No problem, next time I order I'll try to keep you in mind. Ordering from Russia is definitely more of a pain than ordering from here in the US but it's doable.

DMT has several product lines. https://www.dmtsharp.com/

They make both interrupted surface (polka dot) and continuous surface diamond hones and plates.

The typical color coded plastic base with interrupted surface are what they call "Diamond Whetstones".

Two-sided dual-mesh interrupted surface plate are their Duo-Sharp product line. They are meant to be used with a holder-base.

The ones that have a continuous section at one end, interrupted surface for the rest, are called Duo-sharp Plus.

Dia-sharp is what they call their continuous surface plates. Dia-flat is their name for continuous surface plates used for water stone flattening.

I bought a set of the ultra sharp stones from best sharpening stones awhile back for about what a dmt costs. yes I have dmt's and they are quite comparable. I had an issue with the coarse but they replaced it quickly and no problems with it since. the set was 300, 600, 1200 and single sided but at the price difference who cares. once broken in I cannot tell any difference in the scratch pattern nor sharpening ability. I make a lot of knives for the hunters around here and have worn out a few dmt's over the years. at the price and the warranty I will stick with the ultra sharp brand only dmt I will consider is the 4k which ultra sharp dosent have. I don't argue about dmt being good, these are as good only cheaper.

I have a couple ultra sharps, they are not much cheaper any more and they are coated less evenly and less concentrated.
That being said, I have a couple 6" ultras in my truck and they have done a lot of work camping, or at a friend's house in a pinch.

thanks for the discription on the ultras I was looking at them but not anymore . Looking at the DMT DiaShar 8 Inch 4 set XXC, C, F ,XF . What do guys think of this . With the spray . Way out of my budget but I been working late and have extra money so I figure I'll buy these .

I use cheaper option: DMT credit cards, come in set of 3: C, F, EF (or XF).
Small but works for me. Unless one sharpens professionally, for personal use (and with lots of patience), it is ok. Smaller scrubbing motion helps me to maintain more consistent angle too.
Just to give option, add the XC or XXC bigger ones if reprofile often.
I use cheap SiC (similar to ACE) to do the heavy work of reprofiling.

Hi,
why are you interested in diamond sharpening stones?
do you own any sharpening equipment already, have you sharpened before?

I do all of my sharpening with a cheap smith try-stone . why do want diamond I want to be able to sharpen my knives in five minutes not 1/2 hr . why ? What good is my dull s90v Benchmade . My last reason I want to learn the art of free hand sharpening.

I sent an email to VID asking if they'd be willing to send some sample bars for a passaround. If they are willing then I'll try to get one going so people can see if they like them or not.

You are the man, keep us in the loop. Like I said, if you have a chance to get me one I am all over it.
PM me if you need it up front, I am good for it.

If they respond affirmatively I'll include you in the passaround if you want. BTW, my name is Russ, too. Feel free to call me that, haha

Do you know which smith's tri6 hone is it
tri-6 with coarse/medium synthetic and fine arkansas?
Or with coarse synthetic and medium/fine arkansas?

If you're only sharpening S90V and not reprofiling/regrinding,
and using arkansas for final microbevel,
even with this stone set it should only take about five - ten minutes

S90V it can be sharpened and even reprofiled without diamonds

Oil stones load and wear and need refreshment periodically,
more often if sharpen a lot of S90V.

If the smiths isn't coarse enough,
your local hardware store should have coarse sandpaper under 100 grit for under $5 or about $1
or coarse silicon carbide stone (~120 grit/~320 grit)
which should speed up reprofiling/regrinding.
ace hardware even has 8inch stones under $10.

If you have a local harbor freight they have a diamond block 200/300/400/600 grit for under $20/$14

Your local asian grocery (like HanKook) might have a diamond paddle with 400/1000 grit for $20

All I'm saying is a full DMT set isn't strictly necessary
