DO NOT DEAL WITH EVAN ERIKSEN (RIPtastic. Reapingitup, Snowreaper1)

Be careful admitting to paypal that you are violating their TOS. I would likely just consider it a lesson learned.

My thoughts as well. Not a great idea to tell PP that you knowingly avoided their fee for purchasing goods and services. They may look at your account as a potential problem.

I spoke to PayPal a week or so ago. They didn't express any outrage about me sending the money F&F. They just told me that I couldn't dispute it with them. The rep I talked to actually suggested that I go to my bank about it (who couldn't help me either) and was sympathetic for my situation. I think the problem is more with soliciting the payment via F&F rather than sending it.

That makes sense, since you're not the one avoiding the fees.

Yup, just because they did not express any outrage it does not mean they won't be looking at your activity just a little bit closer.

So glad you people do such great detective work. These scum bags need to be rooted out. Would guess that he buys a few blades, gets the good reviews, then attempts to "sell" the same item as many times as possible on different sites.

Thank you to all who bring out these crooks (sorry for your losses). And thank you to all who spend their personal time (and money in some cases), to research the info on these sorry sacks so others can avoid being taken (hopefully).

I just got an email from Evan. Presented without further comment.
I'm not going to go into what's been going on but I promise you'll get your money back. It might be a little bit but I'll get you your funds back. I'm sorry all this happened. I should be getting a check in the next 2-3 weeks and if I can't send it all you'll at least get some than and the rest as soon as more money comes in. I'd rather just send the knife but it's not in my possession anymore. Again sorry.

This guy is a professional scammer. He isn't "reaching out". He's stalling, pushing off the pressure for a few more weeks. Anybody dealing with him has to keep the heat turned up, get PayPal on it, credit card companies. Now.

And law enforcement...

+1
Remember mbp didn't start this thread he's just another guy ripped off by Evan Eriksen.

Here's my response to his email:

What the hell is going on here? Now you'll send "some" of my money "in the next 2-3 weeks"? What happened to the knife? What exactly are you trying to do here? You need to answer some questions here.

Obviously you're aware of the threads on BladeForums, JD, etc... look, just come clean with whatever is going on and make it right. We all walk away OK, no harm no foul.

And I just received his response (bolded to differentiate):

It's really the best I can do at this moment in time. If you'd rather wait until I can send it all at once I can do that. I know payment was sent gift so there's no recourse with paypal but I'll make it right , my word

So I find this to be interesting. Obviously, his word is worth nothing, and (as his been pointed out) this seems to be just stalling until he hopes it all blows over. But by saying "there's no recourse with paypal" he seems to be basically admitting to having scammed me. So I wonder if PayPal would be more apt to help me out if they knew he had admitted to fraud...

Wow. It's almost as if he read a book titled "The Art of the Scam", and he's following through with the steps outlined. Maybe he's just a guy that want's to improve his craft. Let's not give him a hard time. :D

You're dealing with a pathological liar and conman hoping that he'll magically start acting normal. He can't. Take all the legal steps you can as soon as you can.

Oh, I agree. Like I said, his word is worth nothing, and I have no illusion of him paying me back. I just don't have a ton of recourse right now because I've spoken with PayPal and because I was dumb enough to pay gift, was told that they couldn't help me. They suggested talking to my bank, who told me there was nothing they could do as well.

I'm not sure what other options I have. In terms of legal remedies, sure I could report it to the police, or pursue a judgment--which wouldn't be worth my time, the court filing fees alone are more than I got ripped off. I'm just thinking that I need to go back to PayPal now that I have basically an admission of guilt.

With the spotlight being shined on him he can't rip off new people to pay the ones he's previously robbed. He might be forced to live within his means and not have the money to play.

Like a ponzi scheme or kiting checks. All's good until it's time to pay up.

this guy is a conman as has been previously stated, I am a retired LEO, I have always said good people die everyday, but you cannot kill trash and you damn sure will never get the spots off a dalmatian!!

^yep this.

this guy is an extreme lowlife dirtbag/deadbeat with zero morals or ethics. compulsive liars are the worst and this guy is definitely one of those as well.....

I have received a second e-mail - again with him apologising, and asking for the address to send to as he has lost his records.

I am going forward with my PayPal credit refund dispute, so in one short sentence said "No thanks, continuing with PayPal refund, dont want the knife.

In his first e-amil he said I could continue with the PP proceedings, and he will still send the knife...

Ok...I wont hold my breath, if I am to get a refund from PP, then Im not going to much PP around by accepting the knife - not that I would get it anyway.

I doubt it. The fee they charge for all goods and services transactions is your insurance. If you don't pay your insurance, you're not covered. Anytime you pay f&f, you need to be prepared to take the loss. The only way the bank or cc company might cover you is if you didn't have any funds in your pp account when you made the purchase. In that case the payment would have come from one of those other two sources, and pp would just be a middleman (this is my understanding anyway).

Good idea, he seems to already have a history of ripping people off, so his word is worthless at this point. Maybe he will come through and try to make it right in the end, but he's got a long way to go to build his reputation back up. He should be done for on this forum anyway, but I'm sure he'll try to weasel his way back in somehow. Judging by his pics in his photobucket album, he seems to be a CRK and Strider fanatic, so any of you guys that do a lot of dealing with those blades need to keep a close watch out for him.
