Do you actually use your swiss army knives?

I cannot really think of a time I thought I really wise I had a swiss army knife, I could use any heavy folder for opening a can and a really sharp knife will take the place of scissors, So do you who own them really use them much for stuff a ordinary folder couldn't do?

Also what is the best model to get? I want a balance of size and usefulness.

Yes they do things an ordinary folder can't.

Basically your point is valid, a good sharp knife can do a LOT of things.
But a more specialized tool can make many of those tasks easier.
And there are some things you can't, or at least shouldn't do with a knife.

The can opener is safer than doing it with a blade, and you don't muck up the tip.
A small pair of scissors can do precision snips on small objects. Have you ever tried to trim a 1/8" piece of thread with a knife?
You can cut a 2 inch branch with a blade, but a saw will do it in mere seconds.
Gawd Help You if you use your knives as screwdrivers.

...and so on and so-forth...

As for models...I have a Vic Tinker. It's a nice slim knife with useful tools. I think the Super Tinker which adds scissors is probably the better knife though for most people.

These days I EDC a One Hand Trekker, the larger size, and excelent saw compliment my interests in bushcraft and outdoor skills.

The Farmer is very popular with outdoorsy folks, and with good reason.

The Huntsman has most of the tools i think are realy useful, blades, saw, scissors, awl.

I carry a Scribe on my keychain and used it today to check off my grocery list. A 81mm Tinker in the other pocket.

A day doesn't go by that I don't use my SAK for some pressing problem.

In my extreme old age, I can't seem to even get into a simple food package without the small blade on my Recruit.

I carry a black Victorinox Huntsman everywhere I go. Great little knife and the tools have been so useful in so many ways. I use mine virtually every day.
