Do you actually use your swiss army knives?

I use the big blade for opening boxes. Tape adhesive cleans off with any petroleum-based solvent, from kerosene to brake cleaner.

I always have a red Victorinox Rally with me on my key chain, and for most things a knife won't do, it will. Notice the can opener on the key ring as well; the rally doesn't have one so I have that should I ever need it (which is pretty much never...)

And then there is my pocket carry multi tool. The Leatherman Surge, Black Oxide coated. Yes it isn't a swiss-style multi tool, but it's what I carry everyday. It's big, but it has the capabilities for a pocket clip (I'm a pocket clip kind of guy) and a pair of full size plyers which I use ALL the time.

I also found this older Victorinox Climber of my dad's in his old army "toybox" chest. Some of the tools were very stiff, but I sprayed some CLP in there and cleaned it out and it's back to like new now. Haven't had any carry time with it, but everything Victorinox is great and will do you well.

This specific tool is very nicely designed and the blades take a decently sharp edge and keep it for a so-so amount of cutting time. If you really need a blade for a lot of stuff, you're just going to have to get a real mans knife.

I used my victorinox recruit yesterday to cut the weather stripping and dried 5200 sealant from the aluminum frames of the windows of the wheelhouse on my lobster boat. I used the small blade mostly because it was thin and sharp. It was able to get in between the aluminum and the foam stripping. it was used to cut the adhesive holding the foam in place and scrape any leftovers from the aluminum. it was also used to cut and scrape the dried sealant from the frames. I had to recaulk all of the windows. water was pouring in when we were taking spray. eventually it will damage the electronics. A stanley knife would not have worked as the handle is too bulky for the angle of most of the cuts. The small thin pen blade on the swiss army knife was perfect for the job. And, after repeated contact with the aluminum window frames, it isn't much duller than when I started the job.

I cannot decide if I want to get a leatherman surge or cybertool next.

The Surge is one hefty multi tool, but it won't dissapoint. Not sure about the cyber tool, and as I live and work on my farm the Surge can take abuse and really dish it out. If you're looking into a plyers based multi, look into SOG's as well. They have features that leatherman doesn't (and vise versa) as well as some really cool looking tools.

I use my SAK a lot. Others seem to use it even more. I have a Victorinox Climber, which seems to have most of the useful tools I might want without a whole bunch of stuff I don't. The scissors are great for loose threads on clothes and gear, the screwdriver tools work far better than a knife blade would for screw heads. And the climber has a corkscrew which I used a couple of days ago, to open a bottle of wine.

But for everytime I use it, it seems like I hand it over to someone else, who has asked, "Does anyone have a knife?"

I have many other knives, but the one I never leave behind is my SAK.

I cannot decide if I want to get a leatherman surge or cybertool next.

The tool I use most often is my Cybertool 34 despite also carrying a Leatherman Wave & a Leatherman K5042x. The Cybertool gives me a great range of screwdrivers and is enough tool to fully assemble a computer from parts.
For camping I have a Victorinox Ranger & Trekker on the way, but for my normal Urban EDC needs the Cybertool is just too useful not to carry.

YMMV but for me a decade worth of EDC tells me that the Cybertool is a great tool for the urban environment and being a computer tech - I wouldn't want to be without it.

I carried a SAK for years every single day and I used it all the time. I think it was a Captain which is much like the current Tourist.

I have attempted to replace it with a Leatherman PS4 but am finding the PS4 pretty low quality compared to the SAK.

Beer and wine bottles are my SAK's nemesis and it takes them on with flying colors.....It also seems to be a good will ambassador for my compatriots who are less than knife-friendly.

Everyday! The toothpick, the blades, the scissors, the pen,(I carry Vic Plus models) both flat & phillips screwdrivers. When I have the file, I use it. The hook is great for grabbing wires in control panels. As I said, "everyday".....;)

The awl is also good for teasing apart small wires, or undoing the question mark when a wire is wrapped onto a screw. And cleaning nails. And making small holes.

My favOrite SAK is the Cadet due to compact size
yet still has basic sakabilities.
Anyone know why the colored alox versions fell by the wayside?
Only ones still in vendor's lists is the silver alox.
Use it? Ubet

I carry a SAK almost every day and use it a lot. It can do most of my light and medium cutting tasks and since most SAKs have multiple tools, it can do other tasks too. A SAK has its limits, but especially since I live in a city nowadays, most cutting tasks seem to be within those limits.

I`ve carried a Spartan pretty much every day in the last 15 years since I got it. Even in knifehating Norway. Does everything I want from a knife and more.

Ordered a classic, a pioneer and a waiter yesterday, and when I get them I `ll retire the Spartan. Too many good memories would be lost if I ever loose it.

As an FYI, the 'hook' was originally used to carry string wrapped parcels more easily. Now, some use it to carry plastic bags.

Another use of the hook is for tightening (cinching-up) laces on shoes, (ice) skates, etc.

I`ve used the to awl for prying into and loosening knots in plastic bags. I`ve heard some people have had success using the cork-screw for loosening knots also.

I put a real (cut) file on my SAK money clip. That way I can clip money when I have it and file my nails all the time. I hike a Waiter around in case I trip over a bottle of wine. My Champ is in the fishing vest (read wearable purse). The most used blades on that one are the saw, the magnifying glass, the eyeglasses screwdriver, and the straight pin.

Every time I need an awl I go and get my alox Soldier. I have other SAK, 2 Leathermans, dozens of knives... hey, that awl is amazing!
