Im getting a d2 mini grip for x-mas and i was going to use it for hiking and other wilderness activities. Also i was wondering if you carry a folder into the woods what is it?

Does a SAK count?

Or a Leatherman?

If so, then yes.

The first survival school I went to, all I took was a SAK and a Buck 110. Did great.

I do all the time.
Folders I have carried in the wild:
Case Large Wharncliffe Trapper
Case Gunboat Canoe
Buck 112 and 110
Kershaw Shallot
Kershaw Tanto Blur
SOG Flash II
SOG Tanto Trident
LM Wave
LM Core

Always. Along with a fixed blade, of course. Lately is has been a Buck Bantam, however it was my Kershaw Leek for a while.

Vic Hiker (always),one of my large stockman, and sometimes in place of a fixed my 6OT or 7OT lockback.

I'm NEVER without one, either in the woods or in the city. Even when wearing a dress suit I have some sort of folder with me. The only time I don't have one in my pocket is when I'm on an airplane. (Then I have a small sharp piece of flint in my pocket. For some reason, the security people don't think that's as much of the threat as a nail clipper! )

Never without one EVER. But I always have a fixed blade in the woods as well.

I usually have my Dozier folder in my inside vest pocket.

Three and a half inches of razor sharp D2.

But I always carry a fixed blade, …or three. :D

I always have a fixed and a folder in the woods. Well, to be honest, I usually have more than just one; I carry too many, but it is just too much fun. I couldn't list them all, but the ones I use the most are a Camillus Heat, CRKT Prowler, Spyderco Native, Vic SAK, different mulit-tools, Opinels, and many others.

Sometimes an Opinel, and I did carry a Bucklite for several years.

I've pretty much moved away from folders now though, in favor of a small lightweight fixed blade.

I EDC a folder everywhere. The blade size may cchange but its always there. For the woods I usually have my Griptilian but I also carry a SAK or pacific salt on occasion.

In addition to a fixed blade, I carry at least one or two folders in the wilderness - Spyderco UKPK or Para, Moore Maker 5301 stockman, Queen #9 stockman, small sebenza, various SAKs, etc.
