I like to do a lot of hiking and camping, and I sometimes like to attach my knife to my pack, but I am having a hard time figuring out a good way to do it. The problem is that for larger packs like a full size backpacking pack, I am not able to put a blade on my waist because the hip belt gets in the way. There are several ways to attach it to the front part of the pack, but then it is not reachable unless I take it off.
Some ways that I have tried is to attach the knife though the pack's hipbelt. This works on my camelbak, but it tends to slide around a bit. It does not work on my backpacking pack because of the way the hipbelt works. I have also tried to attach it to the lower part of the shoulder straps. This works on most packs, but the knife I usually use is a regular KaBar, so I can't just loop the shoulder strap though the sheath without a lot of work. Last time I used a small carabiner so that I could easily get the knife off of the back strap
What are some ways that you do it? I know that each pack is different, but I would like to get some ideas of how you do it.
