Very,Very rarely.

Only hunting season, the way I see it, if someones close enough to be robbing me, I can find a way out, if someone shoots me from a distance in the woods, its not gonna matter what I have with me because their gonna be waiting anyways!:D

I always carry. Rattlesnakes, mountain lions, rabid critters (unlikely, but possible) and dope growers are all possibilities.

I always carry a firearm with me. Usually, a small .357 Titanium revolver. I'm not paranoid, just practical. Of concern to me in my neck of the woods and in order of importance is #1 - Marijuana growers, #2 - Pit Bull dogs of marijuana growers, #3 - Mountain lions, and a distant #4 would be bears and any other crazed animal either 4 legged or two.

No I don't because of strict gun laws, but I should there have been people who were killed for pennies by two legged creatures during camping trips. As I recall a couple died in northwest a couple of years ago when two legged animal took all their things etc...

Pretty much at least one close by regardless of my where-abouts (fully respecting all applicable laws) . . . and soon while oot 'n aboot in Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks as well, which, is as it should be.

Yes, because Fish & Wildlife has decided that it's more prudent to manage people than wildlife. There were three serious brown bear maulings this past summer within a couple miles of my house, which is well within city limits. In the early 90s, an elderly woman and her son, well-known local runners, were mauled to death by a brownie protecting its moose kill at a popular hiking/picnic area three miles south of town. A co-worker of mine was hideously disfigured and permanently blinded by a brownie while fishing for salmon at a well-used and crowded fishing spot five years ago. Over the past twenty years, several people have been trampled by moose, three of them to death.

F&W and the city assembly have been kowtowing to the bunny huggers who followed the oil trail up here in the 80s, as a result the wildlife no longer has any fear of us.

Do I carry a firearm in the wilderness? Hell, I carry one when I go for a walk in town.

I don't have a carry permit and even after weighing the risks I doubt I'd carry it much if I did. In over 30 years of travelling in the woods and wilderness, I've never had a situation that needed one. Some may say I'm being naive, but it's a choice I'm willing to make.

Yes , the one time I did not someone shot my airedale from hiding and if they had pressed on I was helpless.
In wilderness help of any kind is not around the corner , back in Texas around Fort Hood we had problems with feral dogs and the occasional feral hog and at least once gang style murder off on of the secluded range roads.

Not a criticism but a question to the guys from Finland and Norway. Don,t you guys have prisons and nut houses or any drug issues at all? If you do you have the potential for 2 legged varmints.

I carry sometimes. I would carry most of the time but there are a lot of thieves in Missouri. Im afraid Id leave it in the car then it would get stolen.

In the country I live in, it is a must. Just remember you must always be vigilant. You will be amazed at how fast trouble strike, mostly when you least expect it!

I do, at times. I'm in a pretty good area, and when I'm just on my normal day walks... it just depends on my mood. But, if I go riding 4-wheelers on some of the trials, then I normally do, or if it's an overnighter type deal also.

Whenever it is legal, I'm armed. I prefer to have both a handgun on my side and a rifle with me but that is not always possible.

+1 to that. In Brazil carry is not legal and I don't want to face two years in jail. I carry here in PA. The only time it is a bad idea to have a handgun and a few spare magazines is when falling out of a boat. Mac

Nope, or very rarely. This poll should have a "no because I choose not to" option too!

Anyway, it's generally not my thing, but I don't begrudge those who chooses to carry, so long as it is done responsibly.

Its because you are Canadian and just can't. :D

Always carry in the woods. Even if its just my Ruger MK II .22.

I've never heard of anyone being robbed or mucked in the woods here. While hiking, I rarely see anyone, and when I do, I usually just talk about the weather or something with them. On the close-by trails Ive sometimes seen some teenagers drinking beer beside a fire... I once talked to them about breaking glass in the nature. They applogized... So, there was no need to shoot anyone :D

In the city, well, lets just say that Ive lived some 25 years in an urban area that can be considered as a rough neighbourhood in Finnish standards, and Ive never considered carrying a gun. Its pretty easy to avoid any serious threaths... kinda like "the more you know the less you need". I have sometimes, in some particular circumstances, carried an improvised weapon.

Anyway. Statistically Im more likely to slip on the sidewalk, hit my head and die, than be mugged. And since Im not about to wear a helmet while walking my dog, I kinda figured Im not gonna need a gun neither. After all, "better to have and not need, than to need and not have" taking to the extreme leaves you looking stupid with a kitchen sink on your back.
