attej,

Thanks for your responses. I was trying to determine whether your statement was intended to apply to the "bush" (the original topic---although I recognize that the discussion has broadened).

I think the exchange subsequent to my inquiry has adequately clarified your position. Thanks for your input.

I don't hunt much anymore but in some areas where I camp this comes along.

I I did not already own the 3" Trail Boss S&W 629, I'd buy one of those scandium 44s (I've got the 340PD in .357). I'd be doing a lot of carrying and the light weight of that 44 would justify the more punishing range sessions.

Nice revolver!

I carry a gun in the woods most of the time. I am an American, I live by my 2nd Amendment rights. Remember, the 2nd Amendment is our Rights, not a favor. The only ones I have to thank for that is the Men and Women who have fought for our rights and gave their lives for it. I served my Country and I was born and raised here. I feel like I have the right to bear arms and no one should be able to take it away from me. I am a responsable person and a law abiding citizen. I feel that no man should tell another man how he should live or make his decisions for him. For the ones that dont carry, well good for you. For the Americans that do carry, its you Right, not a privalage, keep on packing.

Are these the two-legged predators everyone is talking about?

I have a CPL, but rarely carry concealed in public. In the woods, I am usually hunting, but like to carry my handgun as well because I can wear the big one then. Michigan is an open-carry state anywhere, but I hear people get pretty nervous when you carry open in public...

I always carry my .357 S&W 340PD when in the swamps of Florida because we have quite a few poisonous snakes, gators, feral hog and feral dogs running around. I very rarely use it but like insurance, it is always handy to have in case you do.
When traveling I always have a gun in my truck and take it into the motel room at night, my wife feels safer having the weapon available at a moments notice; I have a Florida CCW permit.

Im not saying that all gun owners, or people in this forum, act that way. Just saying, that these things happen.

And because of these very small amount of people who fit your description, you take the time to make generalizations and paint a larger group of people with the same brush? Even though you added this disclaimer, your overall demeanor here shows otherwise.

Personal protection is the most important thing in my life. If I am not alive I cannot do any of the other stuff I enjoy, and I won't be here for those who depend on me. For the same reason I wear my seatbelt, keep a fire extinguisher, and pay for insurance, I carry a gun. Not only is it the best tool for the job at that point, it's also a fun and safe hobby and allows me to really practice well. You will only really grasp the subjects you are interested in.

I think you're "what-if'ing" this situation way too much.
