Do you edc a firesteel?

Nope. I use a lighter dozens of times daily around the shop, so always have one or trhee in my pocket. There's also one in my first aid kit.

I can make a drill work well enough, so I don't feel like I'm lacking. But I have a few magnesium+firesteel blocks in the ditch bags and backpacks.

yup everyday, I got one of these

and one of these on my work keys too. It's all wrapped up with jute cord dipped in wax for waterproofing and then placed within the weave of the para cord.

What weave did you use for that? I have been wanting to do something like this for awhile.

And is the hacksaw blade kept within the cord as well, more shots of this would be appreciated.

Yes, Here's some more pics.

This one has everything wrapped up in the jute cord used for firestarter, you can see the blade with the rod.

Here it is after dipping it in wax a couple of times to seal it up.

The weave is called the Square weave just google that and you should come up with plenty of how to do's. I keep the inner strands in mine when I weave some take them out. It takes me about 30-40mins to make one of these from scratch. If I'm doing 5 or 6 I can get those done in about 1-1/2 hrs. Lots of work and look great, plus it's always with you and it concealed.

BTW... I have traveled through various airports with this with no problems... including to Australia and Jamaica and countless US airports. Another bonus is to use it as a weapon in itself. Hold onto the key fob and use it as a handle to swing your keys at enemy! I like it this way so I make the loop on the end longer.:)

Just another note, I use the smallest hacksaw blades I could find that were still rigid. I can't remember the brand but I get them from the usuals suspects.. Home depot and lowes. You can get a 5 or 6 pack for like $3 Then I can break them in half or thirds. Use a needle nose plier to remove the pin on the ends to make it easier to wrap.

It takes patience to get it right when wrapping and weaving too till you get the hang of it. I use a sharpie marker to start the first few weaves then pull that out and slide in the ferro rod wrap.

Ok cool. I am familiar with the square weave. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't some crazy weave i wasn't familiar with. 1/4" Ferro rod I assume?

This just gave me an idea. I EDC one of a number of multi-tools. I should find someway to incorporate a fire steel into it...

I carry a plain rod, that I drilled a hole into on my keychain, everyday. I also have one, that I put a small handle on, that I carry in my leatherman sheath along with a piece of fatwood.
