do you edc your best knives?

my first thought when I read the thread title was of course I use my best knives for EDC... Any production or non custom knife would be carried for EDC or I wouldn'r own it period.

Then I thought about after reading several posts about custom knives and whatnot and I guess some day when I have the kind of dough to collect jewel encrusted damascus folders I won't EDC them. =]

I have a couple of sebbies some striders and a couple of william henry's. They all get pocket time. The sebbies and striders for work and the WH's for dress occasions. Any knife I didn't want to carry got sold, after all they are tools.

my edc is a $500 boker helios leo damas.. too nice not to carry and use..I can't enjoy it if it's in a drawer all day while I'm out and about..

Heck yes. but I dont have any really high dollar ones.. but the ones I do have get there turn in the pocket always..

Only time We've got is today. Why not carry them and use them?

If I'm worm dirt tomorrow, and my favorite(s) are safe queens, my Sons might think the blade(s) to nice to ever use - so they'd miss the purpose of the knife.

The reason I have them is to use them, take care of them, and give them to my sons (or daughters if they have interest) when the time is right.

To put it in perspective though, if I were rolling in the $$, I might very well think differently.

But for now, I save to get something we will use, or not be afraid to use if we ever felt like it.

Good Thread.

EDCing is not really using one knife every day -
you might EDC different knives on different days (office, holidays, camping...)
and sometimes you might ED carry a knife without a definite intention to use it - many of us carry several knives so you can always go for the cheap sturdy user to beat it up, and take out the custom for some light enjoyable use....
wuss, okay, but practical :)

I'm a wus.

I don't EDC some of my knives. I bought a second Benchmade Forum knife to strictly be a safe queen and the same goes for some of my Benchmade prototypes.

I bought all my knives as users. Not to say I used them all much. Some knives would quickly get retired for various reasons. Too big, too small, not an ideal blade shape for me, handle problems, lock problems, and more.

I do think I'm carrying my best knives, the best knives for me. Not necessarily the most expensive I own, but the ones I end up liking best.

Well, the most expensive knife I've ever bought was a Spyderco G-10 Police, and it was my EDC for about a year until I traded it.

These days, I'm trying to keep my knives limited to three catagories:

1) Knives that I intend on carrying or using in my tackle-box, tool-kit, garage, etc.

2) Knives that are interesting for some specific reason, but I don't plan on carrying them (example: CRKT Rollock, Spyderco Meerkat, Kershaw Rainbow Leek).

3) Knives that were just too good of a deal to pass up.

i cant edc any hi dollar knife simply because im afraid of ruining it. now if im going to a show or something i will but if i know im going out to ride or work the chances are i may damage it and take 420hc or maybe my m16 aus8 but the s30v and 154cms stay home for special occasions or am i just a wus.

PW, since I don't (1) need instant one handed access and (2) am lazy and don't want to clean knives more frequently than necessary, I keep folders (autos like Lucy, my Protech Runt) in a small nylon/kydex/whatever velcro pouch in my pocket. The knives don't get scratched up either. These little pouches are very inexpensive. I have a bunch of $2 knives that I bough just to get the pouch that came with them to use with my better folders.

Also taking an auto out of a pouch doesn't seem as alarming to many as just whipping it out and Thwacking it open.

Troll Bait hit it right on the head for me. I always carry two folders and one of them is a high end folder that I rarely use but carry nontheless because I like the quality of the knife. The small slipjoint I carry is the one I use 9 out of 10 times.
