Do you ever feel "over equipped"?

Shoot, if my jeans had more pockets I'd carry more and be more equipped! I carry a notepad, pen, leatherman surge, real knife, flashlight, as my standard. And I feel barely equipped. If i carried less id feel naked. I've been looking for a 4" adjustable wrench that can open to 9/16....

I carry a notepad and pen as part of the job.......didn't think to mention it.

I carry one knife on my person and usually a multitool of some kind in a bag or pack with me. Carrying more than one knife on my person is actually pretty rare these days. I used to carry 2 at a time regularly, and still do once in a while, but one knife is plenty for me.

I generally work I'm the middle of nowhere. Some days are really busy, some days aren't. That being said, people laugh at the stuff I carry until they need it. But I don't loan my stuff out so they ask and I say no. Generally, I have a small knife for food, a flashlight, a small prybar/bottle opener, nail clippers, another medium folder and a fixed blade. Never know what sort of situations you're going to end up in. Sometimes being 80ft up in a man basket with impact gloves on calls for a fixed blade. Other times I just fidget with things all day.

Nah I don’t feel over equipped, just well prepared!

After retiring I might change to more minimalist but as long as I have this job I’ll keep staying prepared for the tasks that arise. And when I go outdoors camping, fishing or hunting or trail riding I will still carry what I might need come heck or high water. I’ve had to many instances where I needed a tool and didn’t have it. I don’t like long walks or hardships that well.

Yes, almost every day hiking my ass to and fro and carrying way too much gear. Not just knives/flashlights/tools but binoculars and maps and notebooks and a GPS and a Kestrel weather meter and...

Field biologists should have valets.
But we're broke.

Most of the time at work I’m walking, anywhere from 100 yards to a half mile round trip a few to several times a day. My phone says I cover about 5 miles a day on average and a real busy day it’s about 8. So I don’t want to walk back and forth to and from a toolbox for a simple screwdriver or pliers. My Leatherman multi tool has saved me a lot of steps.
I carry a 501 Larrin, a Buck vantage pro, and a 110 LT and a LM Wave, microstream flashlight, pen, pencil, note pad, leather gloves and my phones. Of course when I need a bigger tool I go to a toolbox located in several places around the plant. A few other guys work there with me and carry maybe a small pocket knife and flashlight but are constantly asking me to cut something or do something with my multi tool. Some days I feel like the toolbox, lol.

I deal with ill equipped people in ill equipped places so I tend to carry way too much. I also spend from three to ten nights in hotels every month.

My water bottle EDC bag is my man purse and has everything from titanium chopsticks to scissors, flashlights (plural. One regular, one AAA UV) and ways to start a fire.

Everyday without fail I have a Vic Swiss tool on my belt, I don’t even take it off to sleep, only to shower and change jeans, in addition to that I carry a slip joint, usually a Vic spartan but also can be a case, old timer, or gec. Also carry a one hand folder clipped usually spyderco or cold steel both in RP pocket with the SAK.
Those are on my person, but I keep a Vic classic on my truck keys, multiple knives inside my truck, multiple knives in my toolbox at work, and obviously surrounded by them at home. At work I keep a pen and pocket screwdriver in my shirt pocket, sometimes a stream light stinger in leg pocket.

I am over prepared, but I really do use the multitool and at least one of the other pocket knives multiple times a day. It doesn’t bother me to carry them, though I dislike carrying my wallet and cell phone so often take them out and leave them in truck or tool box, but the knives go with me lol.

I have been trying to scale things back a bit. Most days, my Leatherman Charge will handle most everything I need. The issue is that it is a heavy cuss. More often than not, I carry just a single blade folder when I'm at home. At work, I'll carry both mostly to make sure I have a good set of tools on me.

Then again, today I was doing some projects around the house and reached down to get my MT to loosen some screws...only yo remember I let if on the bed when I changed jeans today.

I will say there are days where I carry a fixed blade, an MT, a folder, and I always have a push dagger in my boot. Sometimes I wonder if I'm over doing it.

I will say that I have gotten older my tolerance for packing heavy crap for no reason has gone down.

Another decade and I'll probably be on The Porch ;)

I carry more than most people.
I have a small backpack (murse) on me everywhere I go.
However I carry one knife normally, once in awhile I carry an old slip joint.

I used to carry a fixed blade but found it completely unnecessary and cumbersome to have all the time.

I carry two knives, one in each front pocket. One more of a slicer, the other a little more robust. The carry ergonomics are great and I forget I'm carrying the second knife.

I live in earthquake country, and "two is one and one is none".

But the extra benefit is balancing out the weight on my right side which they say is good for your back.

Two blades on the Minichamp on my keychain. RFP with a folder. Looks like three blades is my baseline. :)
Sometimes I will have a larger SAK (+2 blades) and/or a fixed blade, so I can also go up to six easily. Anything more than this would start to make me feel overknifed.

My friend, the average dude doesn’t even have a knife and just struggles opening his Amazon package for 10 minutes with bare hands. Of course we’re all over equipped here. 😅
A while back someone asked me why I used a knife to open an Amazon package when they have the perforated tear away edge. The answer I gave them was I didn't know about it. The answer I wanted to give them was because I like to use my knife.

Exactly. And why be at the mercy of a perforated edge? What if the factory guy sneezed and skipped your package?
