Do you ever feel "over equipped"?

The older I get the more I appreciate the simplicity of my blissfully innocent pre Internet youth prior to my discovering edc and knife forums…when I began trying to carry everything but the kitchen sink in my pants pocket. I’ve since downsized to much more reasonable edc, but still find myself carrying multiple knives. In reality myEDC Swiss Army Knife is all I need and use for my day to day lifestyle. Add a small light and a pen to it and I’m good to go.

I'm at this point in my life. I'm seriously looking at downsizing my collection to what I "need" vs what I "think I need". I've been carrying my Boker Atlas Plus for two weeks now and haven't missed anything else. Wallet, knife, flashlight and pen are my basics now.

I didn't even get into my other stuff, I carry a small flashlight with me at all times because my eyes are getting bad and I find I can't focus in dark/shaded places. I also carry two wallets, on leather traditional one with cash and a few small items, and a stainless steel wallet for all my cards. There are multiple reasons for this, one because my cards kept getting cracked because of my fat butt sitting on them and the SS wallet prevents this. Secondly, I figure if I get robbed I will hand them the leather one with my cash and hopefully not lose my drivers license, cards, etc. I also carry a hankerchief at all times, cell phone, car keys, so my pockets are pretty full. It makes it challenging to carry a handgun when I am concealed carrying, when I do that I certainly hope I don't fall off a boat because I would sink like an anvil 😂

Funny you should mention that, because it’s the reason I find myself carrying more than my SAK. I have this paranoid thought of falling overboard or into a creek and needing to cut myself free of some entanglement, and so I carry an additional one-handed opening clip it knife on my pocket. I just hope the hand nearest the clip-it isn’t in the tangle 😆

Where does this paranoia come from you ask seeing that I haven’t been on a boat for years. Well, I blame a scene from the movie “The Perfect Storm”. Who said paranoia has to be well reasoned…

Over equipped?

With cutting implements?

I’m not sure I understand…

(This is an old photo - please imagine a couple more axes on the tailgate…) 😉

Never over equipped, as that just means I can handle more challenges; redundantly equipped, yes, meaning I have multiples of the same thing which leads to encumbered, a state we should strive to avoid.

If we are familiar with our surroundings, this will likely not happen. If we go off thoughtlessly, it be more likely.

Nope...I carry my knives in my pocket and usually a pistol as well. Along with a tool backpack on my back while at work. I've never actually weighed it but it's definitely not light.
