Do You Ever NOT Use Your Knife?

There are days when I don't need a knife for reasons outside of the kitchen, having said that my knives get a lot more use than the phones. Sometimes the cell phone doesn't get turned on for weeks, the less I use the phone the better it is. Cell phones are nothing but electronic leashes.

I use my SAK for something almost every day, usually opening packages, bottles or turning screws. My locking folder gets used daily for one thing...opening mail.

That's the wonderful thing about SAK's, they are not just a knife. You have a capability for flat and phillips screwdriving, bottle opening, can opening, snipping, boring a hole, whatever the model SAK you have is equipped with. Compared to a SAK, all other knives are one trick ponies.

Between my Camillus Army engineer's knife (a standard 4-blade camper pattern) and the little Vic Classic — no, there's never a day when one or the other or both don't get used.

No major tasks usually — opening letters, opening packages, opening bags, opening bottles, cleaning fingernails, cutting fingernails, filing fingernails, tightening a screw, removing sharp mold-marks from milk jugs... Just the standard stuff people do daily.

Not really dressed for the day unless they're onboard.

Every now and again I'll reflect as I undress for bed that I did not once use my knife that day. Huh. Not too common an occurrence, but sometimes it just works out that way.

This, exactly.

Which is why, every single day, I find myself needing to use my SAK for something. Regardless of what other knife I might have on me, the SAK always has an application. And I'm not looking for ways to use it, they just come up naturally. Whether using the cutting blade or one of the many other features. Usually I've already used my knife at least a couple of times in the a.m. before I even leave for work.

Sometimes it seems like I am using it all day, and there are plenty of days where it doesn't leave my pocket.

The whole point of having a tool in my pocket is so that it's right there when I NEED it.
