Do you have a favorite local knife shop?

Scottsdale, Az about an hour away from me has this knife candy store.

http://www.penchetta.com

Got to go there if your are closed, and have a healthy heart.

WOW! I wish I started the conversation last week. I was just in Phoenix last week and found knife stores had closed for good and did not locate anything I would call a good knife shop (found some great western gun shops though..). I am definitely going to Penchetta when I head back to AZ in a couple months. Thank you Akapennypincher!!

Jax outdoor gear has a vast selection of benchmade and spyderco, some zt and alot of kershaw. Prices are about 20-30 bucks above online retailers, but it's nice to fondle them :)

KnivesShipFree has a nice store if you are in the Hillsboro Oregon area.

Knives Ship Free is definitely one of the top three shops I've seen. I love the Bark River selection. I'm just about to order their exclusive ZT assisted flipper with the CPM M4 blade. You're lucky if that's your local shop. I can't wait to visit them again in March and add to my Bark River collection.

Corvallis Cutlery in Corvallis Oregon is a great shop. They carry Benchmade, Kershaw, Zero Tolerance, Buck, Spyderco and more. For pricing they take 20% off of the Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price! I just bought a Benchmade Hidden Canyon Hunter from them for $108 even (no sales tax in Oregon). The same knife is running $114.75 on Amazon and eBay. Great people too!

Marks Outdoors in Birmingham, AL. They carry a ton of guns, a decent selection of ammo and hunting supplies, a huge gun safe section, and a limited selection of outdoor clothing.

And knives. The have a big display in the center of the store, with a good selection of the top quality brands. Not a ton of traditionals, mostly case. All the top modern brands, good benchmade, zt, spyderco selection. They also carry some reasonably priced knives from local makers, and some nicer knives ( crk, William Henry, maybe one or two others).

They don't always have the absolute best prices, but they're reasonably priced. I like supporting brick and mortar stores when I can. Their knife salesman is also a knife guy like no other.....he'll stand there and talk knives with you for an hour, and love every minute of it.

The knife counter there is awesome and the guys who work it are top notch.

I'm about an hour from USA Made Blade, and about 2-2.5 from New Graham(tho I haven't made that trip yet). I'm sure there are more but I haven't done much research to be honest.

GASP! There's actually some interest in real brick and mortar knife stores? Well that's good to see . My favorite store, and really the only one I patronize, is Warriors and Wonders in Vancouver which, luckily for me, is only a 30 minute drive away and is the biggest knife store in Canada. A few years ago I drove down to Portland Oregon in the naïve belief that, because of all the knife companies in Oregon, Portland must have some great knife stores. Well Portland is a nice place but it's pathetic as a knife town. I should also mention that I never buy on-line. In fact the only thing that pisses me off about Warriors and Wonders is that they're selling more and more items as on-line ONLY although admittedly it's mostly their cheaper stuff.

Thanks Larry! That sounds like a store I want to visit.

Moved to Feedback:
Knife shop discussion belongs in Feedback, General Knife Discussion is for the knives themselves.

Most stores take 15%-25% off the MSRP, if anyone is paying MSRP these days they are overpaying by a bunch.

Prices aren't so good, but I've got a shop about 45mins away from me in Athens. They carry a good selection of BM, Boker, Case, Puma, and small assortments of other brands. I try to stop by and check their stock everytime I'm near by.

huh, my daughters live in sweet home and i'm up there a few times a year. i'm surprised i never new of this shop. i'll check em out next time i'm up there. another thing nice about oregon (besides the lack of sales tax, no waiting period for firearms sales and very lax knife and gun laws) is the amount of knife/gun shows happening. mostly in portland but also state wide. think about all the major knife companies out of oregon, benchmade, kershaw, gerber, crkt etc. that support these and what types of knives are legal to buy compared to other areas of the country.

Nicks Knives in Oldsmar Fleamarket - Oldsmar Florida - huge selection of case and randals along with everything else
Razor Sharp Unlimited - New Port Richey, Florida - great selection of higher end and midtech knives

I used to have a favorite local knife shop, when I lived a few miles from AG Russell's. :D

There's not much where I'm at now, but I've been grabbing up closeout Wenger knives at the local K-Mart.

Thanks for all the input guys!

Since it took me much longer than I would have preferred to realize that I had a great knife shop like Recon 1 near me I was hoping this thread might help others find out about a great shop near them. As well, I was hopeful that I might discover some more shops to check out in my travels, and I did.

What I am seeing more than anything else is that there is a serious shortage of great knife shops in the country. I suppose that is to be expected considering the low over-head and easy world-wide availability of an internet knife shop.

This leads to me feel more strongly than ever, that if you are LUCKY enough to have a great "brick and mortar" knife shop near you...please support it...help it stay alive...because they are rare and endangered.

New Graham Knives is an hour and twenty minutes from me...my wife and wallet wish it were further than that though :)

New graham knives is about an hour from me and the prices are excellent

I remember my first trip to New Grahams, when I pulled open the door, I thought I was going to have heart failure!:D I had never been in a room with so many knives before, I still get giddy just thinking about it.

My local COOP has a good selection of knives at very reasonable prices and I'm good friends with "the knife guy". There's also a Military Surplus shop with a descent selection.

I gotta give a big Thank You to Recon 1 for hooking me up! I told them I wanted the new BM485, BM 484-1, and the BM Limited Edition Shot Show 615BK. They called me the day the first ones arrived and gave me a great deal on top of it. I also picked up my 2 new favorite Spydercos from them in the past 2 weeks and they gave me great deals on them too. I can't emphasize enough how helpful it is to develop a good relationship with your local knife shop.

THANK YOU RECON 1!

My favorite knife shop is Northern Knives in Anchorage. They have a wide variety of factory and custom made knives. They offer sharpening services for just about anything that is used for cutting. They take trades, offer lay away, make kydex sheaths, make their own line of knives and will build one of your design. Overall they are just great people to deal with and they always take care of me when I go there.
