Do you have a favorite local knife shop?

Yeah, located only 30mins away from one of the largest brick and mortar store in Vancouver,BC,Canada with a large selection of over 8500 items.Sure saved me countless times from purchasing knives that I otherwise would have returned. Also nice that they have a knife club membership with a one time payment, save me 12% in taxes for life. For in store purchases only

Are you referring to Warriors and Wonders, in Vancouver? I hear that's great store.

I gotta give a big Thank You to Recon 1 for hooking me up! I told them I wanted the new BM485, BM 484-1, and the BM Limited Edition Shot Show 615BK. They called me the day the first ones arrived and gave me a great deal on top of it. I also picked up my 2 new favorite Spydercos from them in the past 2 weeks and they gave me great deals on them too. I can't emphasize enough how helpful it is to develop a good relationship with your local knife shop.

THANK YOU RECON 1!

I think you did a great job scoring exactly what you were looking for. Congrats on that.

I've never been to their physical store but I would definitely stop in at The Knife Connection if I was in the area. I bought some Esee Izula scales from them and their service is great! Extremely fast shipping time and the scales really make the Izula fit your hand well.

If you're ever in the area it would probably be worth stopping by here.

My favorite shop is Nordic Knives. Always a bunch or true handmade grails and the biggest Randall collection I have ever seen :).. Not to mention the staff is always classy and very helpful. I'm happy any time I get to make it over there

In downtown Newport, KY there's a store called Cecil Clark Knives. It's the brick and mortar storefront that is also Bladematrix.com. The owner is super friendly and his pricing is darned good even b internet standards. I think he will usually match or even beat the online price, and the shop is jammed to the rafters with knives.

If you ever fly into Cincinnati you are actually flying into northern KY. Newport isn't all that far from the airport and if you have the time it's well worth the trip. It's just across the river from downtown Cincy.

My favourite shop is the second hand market.

If I want a knife (and unless I feel the stock price is right) I always look around for trades.

My second favourite shop is one in my town than sells all kinds of cutting tools uncluding knives. They're mostly Muela, Nieto and Aitor (Your regular spanish brands) but he's one of those old guys that are the last of a kind in the trade. After he closes the shop's gone for good and for ever and ever. I'd have to rely on big dealers in the capital, which I dislike. I'ts one of those shops where I dont mind to pay a full price for a knife, knowing the money goes to the man.

To look around for some fancier and higher end knives I go to one of these big dealers, in which everything is overpriced (BK9 for 140€ ? San Mai ODA FOR 160€? HELL NO).

I also have a friend in the US with which I trade and ask and give knives, much better than buying directly overseas.

Plaza Cutlery in Orange County, CA is amazing.

Recon 1 in Tarzana is nice, but I don't like how the markdowns from MSRP are often not knowable until the knife is being rung up to purchase. Put it on the tag! Another annoying thing about Recon 1 is that none of the customs they have are on display. You have to go to their website, pick a knife, and then ask them to see it in person.

Just so you know for the future...all of the custom knives are on display. Many of them are near the register. The most expensive customs are in a display cabinet in Sako's office because they want to keep them pristine for the (rightfully) picky buyers that actually spend $1500-$3500 on a folder. They are available to check out for anyone that is actually interested in a custom knife. They just put them in the office so that people that have never even heard of a $3000 knife don't come in and say "hey...a $3000 knife!! I want to hold it!..." when they have no intention of buying it. After one "customer" dropped a custom knife they were looking at, all of the expensive customs went into the office. Frankly I don't blame them. If I'm spending more than $500 on a knife it is going to have to be flawless or it isn't coming home with me.

When I was there, I saw very few custom knives on display. The case near the register had a few gaudy Strider customs and some damascus Marfione Anaxes. Other than that, none of the customs shown on their website was on display. I specifically asked about seeing the other customs, and they told me that to see any I'd have to specifically ask for the one I wanted to look at, presumably by finding it on their website first. At this point I had been in there for 20 minutes already talking with the owner, and it was clear from the conversation that I was not a knife novice or someone who was just looking to play with knives.

That was my experience.

If you say so.

I was there Monday and found a case full of customs from 6 makers up front.
Although I told them I would not be buying a custom in the next 6 months, they showed me their case of high-end customs in Sako's office when I asked.

That was my experience.

Edgeworks in Frederick MD is a great shop. Sean is a great guy, knows his knives and has a good selection of some outdoor gear too. They are about two hours from me.

Willey Knives in Greenwood DE is about two hours from me going the other way. They have a great selection of knives and host Case days every year, and have a big cookout for customers.

Edgeworks is in downtown Frederick, and Willey Knives is in farm country off rte 13 in Delaware.

I think they are working together to further my addiction to sharp stuff though...:D

Corvallis Cutlery in Corvallis Oregon is a great shop. They carry Benchmade, Kershaw, Zero Tolerance, Buck, Spyderco and more. For pricing they take 20% off of the Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price! I just bought a Benchmade Hidden Canyon Hunter from them for $108 even (no sales tax in Oregon). The same knife is running $114.75 on Amazon and eBay. Great people too!

Absolutely my favorite shop!!

Im in LA Ive never been to Recon1 but i know it will be my favorite when i do. The only other option is Ross Cutlery and I cant handle them.
